Ikhaya Safari Lodge is a beautiful thatched home filled with african mementos and some hunters trophies (not so nice). There are guest rooms in the main building, a separate guest wing below the main lodge and a separate guest cottage with self-catering facilities.
We had the separate cottage which is beautifully furnished. The bathroom is compact with a small shower only. The room is very comfortable and decorated in safari style - looks romantic. Unfortunately of all the places we stayed the bed here was rock hard and very uncomfortable. (I didn't discuss it with the hostess as she had recently had a bereavement).
The hostess, Cheryll is an absolute delight and bravely soldiered on despite her loss. Breakfasts are served on the patio with glorious views of Constantia valley and Muizenberg in the distance. Cheryll cooks everything herself and breakfast is plentiful and very tastey. Its a great time to meet up with all the guests and have a good chat and exchange tips on where to eat!
I think the rooms set below the main lodge are probably the most comfortable and quiet, as they are away from the main lodge (and people coming and going). Unfortunately the whole place is affected by very noisy traffic as there are two roads either side of the property and whilst the setting is stunning the noise is very bad as the roads lead to Constantia and the southern suburbs, Constantia and Claremont, Constantia and Hout Bay.
The lodge is very well situated as you can get into town (and V&A waterfront) within 20 minutes, Kirstenbosch Gardens are 5 minutes away, as is Constantia shops and wine estates, Hout Bay and the atlantic seaboard. There are plenty of excellent restaurants close by.
If traffic noise isnt a problem for you, then I would definitely recommend this guest lodge for its comfort, beautiful decor and good value for money and hospitality. I must say that finding accommodation anywhere in CT where there isn't traffic noise I think will be difficult these days as the volume of traffic seems to increase daily.
Little things like the shampoo not being replaced daily, nor the bin in the self-contained kitchen not being emptied, would be my other negative comment. (Again we didnt comment to Cheryll due to her personal circumstances at the time.)
