“Extremely noisy!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2013

Stayed in one of Daddy Long Leg's self-catering apartments on Long Street for 7 days with my husband and our 1-year old.

The apartment in itself was fine - the kitchen utensils need upgrading though...

But the noise... We've stayed on Long Street before and know it's not the most quiet place in CPT but the noise level in this apartment was just intolerable! Downstairs was a bar playing very loud music until 3 am - our bed was literally shaking from the loud speakers which - we realized the following day - are attached to the ceiling of the downstairs bar - just beneath our bed...

I was in CPT for work and really needed my sleep. We complained to Daddy Long Leg's reception explaining that we knew Long Street's reputation (we've previously stayed in Daddy Long Leg's boutique hotel further down Long Street) but that this was more than we - with our 1 year old - could handle. At first the reception was very laid back and not very accommodating. Their reply was that if you choose to stay on THAT end of Long Street, you must expect the noise. Honestly, you can't expect tourists to know different sections of Long Street and their respective noise levels before making a booking. They also suggested we call the police if the noise became too much...

We were asked to return the following day to speak to the manager, but when we came he wasn't available as promised. We returned again the next day (now 3 sleepless nights later) and managed to reach an agreement where we could swap apartments for the last 2 nights to a supposedly more quiet apartment (not a big difference though) and they agreed to cancel and refund another 2 nights that we had booked towards the end of our stay in South Africa.

Daddy Long Legs needs to 'warn' visitors of the noise - especially when you book with children!

Unless you want to party all night every night find somewhere else to stay.

Room Tip: The apartments not facing Long Street as slightly less noisy - but you'll still need earplugs to...

Hi there!

Thanks for staying with us and your comments! Unfortunately due to the positioning of our apartments, the noise factor is an issue as their are a number of cafe's, restaurants and clubs/bars in the vicinity, all this information has been expressed on all websites and platforms, including TripAdvisor with previous reviews you will see the noise is an issue that is just unfortunately out of our control.

We also do inform all guests when checking in that the noise is an issue at the apartment, most of our guests dont mind this as they are out and about on the street enjoying all that the famous Long Street has to offer. Long street is also not the most family orientated kid friendly street in Cape Town, alongside the fact that if you were needing to do some work in a quiet environment i would have recommended staying at our hotel if you had expressed that upon making your reservation with us.

We do apologize however for your inconvenience with regards to the noise.

Wishing you all the best and thanks again for your feedback.

Kind Regards

Impressed by the nice apartment which was facing Long Street. Well equipped, appreciated the washing machine, comfortable, clean, safe (at least if your neighbours lock all the doors), but don't expect much from sleep quality: We stayed for three nights, arrived on Saturday, and the night was extremely noisy! The noisiest place I've ever stayed in. The noise wasn't too bad when we returned from dinner in the evening but it was shaking the apartment towards/in the night. Long street is the party street, though, and the aparment was above and opposite bars - one of which doesn't close until 4 AM. Other nights ok at least with earplugs. They could warn guests about the noise, though. The location is excellent - especially if you there to party till the morning hours! (We weren't.) No Wifi, but used the bar (Mojito) Wifi which worked well in the apartment. Staff at the hotel very friendly and booked a Baz Bus tour for us which was one of the highlights of our vacation!

Room Tip: Apartments not facing Long Street may be more quiet, esp. if you don't have a bar downstairs!

Of all the places I stayed in SA, this was the most expensive one. It wasn't bad, but I wouldn't say it was worth the money. There was two of us, and we wanted the smaller apartment, but that wasn't given to us. The location makes the place. Right on Long St, in the middle of everything, which is exactly what you want in CT. But, for what I was paying, I'd expect to have WIFI available, which it wasn't. It's also very noisy. If your hoping for an early night, you won't get it here. Music was still pumping through the floor boards at 2am, and starts up again around 9am the next morning. The apartment itself was nice, secure, and well setup for a long stay. If there was 4 of us, maybe I'd have said it was more worth the money.

Thanks so much for staying with us! We do apologize that our 1 bedroom apartments were fully booked over the time you stayed with us, if you had booked directly with us i could have looked at reducing the rate down for the 2 of you as that unit is priced for 4.

Wishing you all the best and thanks again for your feedback.

The apartments on the main street are definately better than those with the side entrance. Quirky and clean, however noise is a problem and you need ear plugs!
We enjoyed our stay, Long Street is great, good cafe's, bars and restaurants. Not recommended for families with children. The stairs are pretty tight with heavy cases.

Still Impossible to sleep in these apartment during the night. Bars all around and party going on till very late. I had to sleep in the morning. Not sure what management did to make this place more comfortable as claimed. To give an example during the day you can follow conversations from the bar through the floor.

Of course I complained and was offered a regular room at the boutique hotel, which I refused since I wanted a self-catering apartment not a room. They offer no compensation for the inconvenience. But this is where it gets really crazy. I had made a second reservation for the end of my trip and I am told that they will not refund me, either stay at the hotel or nothing! So on top of all that I have to fight these guys to get my money back. Not cool!

Booked last minute for 2 nights online on recommendation. Check in at main hotel five mins down the road. Stairs difficult with heavy cases and entrance located down a side alleyway which is a bit daunting at night while trying to fumble with the lock and metal gate.

The apartment itself was lovely and spacious with modern bathroom. As others have said, due to the location it's noisy so don't expect much sleep! Still, on holiday it's nice to soak up the atmosphere and be in the thick of it so perfect if that's what you want.

I would be worried about how to get out if there was a fire - bars on all the windows and a locked metal gate behind the front door. However the security measures were appreciated.

All in all it's a great place to stay however and the staff were great and very helpful in booking trips for us and giving advice. Thanks for the patience with all our queries!

I met a pal down in Capetown and he'd booked us one of the Daddy Long legs Apartments. I'd stayed in the famous Daddy nLong Legs Hotel, so this was a bit different - a tidy wee spot, right off Long Street. Secure, clean, so happy days. And, amazingly, not so noisy!

A nice option if you want to upgrade from the backpack thing (but then again, The Backpack just up from Long Street is still brilliant).

Room Tip: Speak to the folks at the office downstairs, on Long Street.
