We have just returned from a week end in Cape Town and our stay at Rutland Lodge was fabulous. We received a very warm welcome from Jean Jo and Benoit. The lodge is in a charming suburb, and view from the rooms is fantastic. The entire lodge is tastefully decorated. Breakfasts are excellent. Everything was perfect and we are highly recommending the lodge to everybody.

“Faultless; the perfect place to stay in Cape Town”

Rutland Lodge

Feb 14, 2008

If you stay in one place whilst visiting South Africa - make sure it's Rutland Lodge.

The house is a beautiful old colonial mansion built by Herbert Baker (who built Cecil Rhodes' house - so straight away you're lucky enough to be living history) which has been stylisly decorated throughout. Breakfast was the best we had throughout our trip in South Africa by a country mile and with the house perfectly situated in the shadow of table mountain, there's no excuse to walk it off with a hike up the mountain from the back door of the hotel

Jean Jo the manager and Benoit the owner were both around when we stayed and they couldn't do enough to help us. Our own personal Cape Town consultants who knew the best places to eat, walking routes up table mountain, beaches, museums, in fact anything and everything to do with Cape Town.

From the moment we arrived until we left, they were the perfect hosts - knowing when to leave us alone and when to invite us for champagne with them on the stoep.

We spent 6 days pretending it was our home - and reluctantly left knowing that we'll be back as soon as possible.

Treat yourself and stay here!

We have just returned from our honeymoon in South Africa, 8 nights of which were spent in Rutland Lodge. What a wonderful place it was to start our honeymoon. Nestled just below Table Mountain, in a quiet residential area, the views of the mountain and Cape Town are breath taking. Jean Jo arranged transport from the airport for us and it was great to see someone waiting there for us after having been travelling for 20 hours. We were greeted at the Lodge by Stella and Jean Jo and shown a beautiful room decorated in a contemporary feel but with touches of Africa it also had one the most comfortable beds I think I have ever slept in. Later that day Stella brought me a lovely vase of flowers and we found a complementary bottle of bubbly in our fridge in the room :)

Jean Jo's hospitality was second to none. The breakfasts were splendid and nothing was too much bother for him - he recommended several excellent restaurants for us and arranged taxis, car hire and trips while were there there.

The main lounge was a great place to gather before we headed out for the night (with several glases of wine supplied by Jean Jo) and provided everyone an opportunity share their experiences of the day.

We were really sorry to leave to go on to the next stage of our honeymoon. Jean Jo was a great host and we hope some day to return.

Stayed here in September and it was fantastic. Beautiful property, very central to Cape Town, just below Table Mountain. The property is exceptionally clean and well maintained. Breakfast is lovely and is prepared with great affection and with lovely personal touches by Stella and Jean Jo!! Jean Jo was fantastic, genuine and friendly and could not do enough to help plan our time in Cape Town. I cannot forget to mention the babies (pets) of the lodge Sam and Jugo I miss them ;o(. If you are planning a trip to Cape Town and want somewhere central, friendly and to a high standard, Rutland Lodge is the place to stay. We'll return soon, promise.
