“The worst”

Clovelly Lodge

Our stay at this place was very upsetting. The owners are cold, stingy and unconcerned. We booked the three days months before our trip and had to pay in advance. When we arrived from the US, we wanted to modify our travel plans and they refused to refund any money. That was the least of the problems. The place was very cold and the only heater was a gas heater. When Barry (owner) turned it on it leaked horrible fumes that irritated my eyes, nose and throat. He said that there was nothing wrong with it and it was my "hypersensitivity" . He didn't even check it. They didn't provide any bathroom amenities except for 1 small bar of soap for both the shower and sink. The bathroom mirrors were so high that we couldn't see in them. The sink faucets were separate, and the knob of the hot water in the shower fell off. He was stern about how to use the TV and satellite remotes, but the satellite didn't work anyway. The furniture was old, and the bed was hard. Barry gave us a small bottle of milk for the next day, but on our second day when we looked for it, we found he took it away! This place didn't resemble the web site at all. We had to leave after 2 days because the fumes made me very sick. They never called to find out how I was. I don't know how they could call it a 4 star. If I lived there, I would sue them for providing an unsafe environment.

My boyfriend and i stumbled across Clovelly Lodge as we were looking for a place to stay and was pleasantly surprised.

The location is fantastic, just a short drive away from the sea and a selection of restaurants. We was shown 3 different rooms we could choose to stay in, all of which were individually decorated, we choose a good sized double room with balcony and en-suite which had lovely views.

Breakfast is fantastic, the food is lovely as are the staff!

Overall we had a really nice 3 night stay here, would reccommend it to those wanting a peaceful stay but within reach of local ammenities.

“Unwelcoming, unfreindly, unhelpful!”

Lovely accommodation and location completely spoiled by uncaring hosts!
We telephoned to advise of our later than anticipated arrival and were scolded like naughty children - we were advised that we had ruined our hosts planned evening out. This set the tone for our two night stay.
No offer of help with luggage - my husband is 72 and registered blind
Cursory tour of the accommodation given on arrival
Room accessed by many external stairs - no lights left on for us on our return on the second night of our stay
An early departure on our last morning required a packed breakfast - we recieved a supermarket pack of a few grapes, two apples and two bananas!
Value for money? I think not .
We shall not return!

I would reccommend this great accommodation to anyone wanting to stay in Cape Town. They have bed and breakfast and self catering apartments, both of which I have stayed in. Have stayed twice now and wouldn't hesitate to go back. The accommodation is near to all Cape Town's attractions with easy access to travel wider throughout the Cape if you want to venture further.

This time we went for a week in one of the self catering apartments which was great and really good value for such well-equipped apartments! They had satellite TV, secure parking, a lovely pool (shared with a couple of other apartments) and even a (free to use) laundry room.

Stunningly peaceful location with great wildlife (good birdwatching very close for example).

The hosts are friendly and available at the nearby B&B guest house if you need them, but not in your face. Barry is a mine of information on just about everything and was really happy to help us plan our route after we left Cape Town and advise on the range of trips and attractions nearby.

Check it out!

“Sublime side of the city”

Clovelly Lodge

Loved the peacefulness of Clovelly Lodge between Kalk Bay and Fish Hoek. Just 20 mins from the city centre too. Outstandingly beautiful surroundings and views. Everything we needed, and breakfast to die for. Had a self-catering apartment for part of the time and that was also great. Well equipped, good information and maps. Real value for money.

    • Disliked — Rooms at the B&B guest house a bit small maybe.
    • Tips/Secrets: — One of the B&B rooms has great views, worth booking early. If u don't get it the deck has the view too.
