Having just returned from a 3 week trip around South Africa we decided to treat ourselves and stay at Daddy Long Legs. What a treat. The hotel is excellent value for money, in a superb location and very funky. Each room is completely different and designed by a different artist. Sergio was a great host and we really enjoyed ourselves. The rooms were spotless and the cafe downstairs serves great cuppacinos and breakfasts. The only problem we had was deciding which room to stay in. We can highly recommend the hotel.

I booked online and was led to believe we would be in the apartments. On arrival it turned out we were in the photobooth room in the hotel. Lots of stairs to the room at the top, and very small room, with few facilities.
Location is in central CBD which is not best for tourists, better of in Camps Bay/Clifton, Seapoint etc.
That said, room was clean and staff very helpful.

Great location if you want to be in the city centre, close to a lot of good bars and restaurants, and our room was surprisingly quiet for being so much in the middle of things. It was good value, but the room we had was extremely small, with no other furniture apart from the two beds - not even a bedside table. There was a rail to hang clothes on, but nowhere to be able to unpack your things and put them away. A really strange thing was that the door to the bathroom was entirely see-through when the light in the bathroom was on - probably ok if you're a couple, but not great if you're just friends! However, quite a funky place to stay, with a definite backpacker feel about it, rather than boutique hotel, as it claims!

We were supposed to stay in one of DLL's self-catering apartments for 4 nights. However, on the morning of the 2nd day, we arrived back from breakfast to find our room infested with cockroaches. Not small ones, but HUGE cockroaches. The kind with WINGS! Now, we are from NYC so we are no stranger to cockroaches, but these were the size of small rats. The woman at the front desk was initially very surly with us, but after I convinced her that I was not going to go away she ultimately contacted one of the owners, Francois, who called us personally and told us that it was "the time of year for them" and that, short of giving us a discount of 150 ZAR for that night, there was nothing he could do. We immediately checked out.

In fairness, Francois did give us a discount and refunded us for the days that we did not stay there, but cockroaches are a deal breaker for us. We later learned that the restaurant below the apartment had recently been fumigated.

Another major con was that there are no phones in the self-catering apartments so, had we not had the presence of mind to rent a cell phone at the airport, all of this would have been a major problem.

Other than the cockroaches and the absence of a phone, the place seemed clean. Just make sure there have been no recent fumigations before you stay there.
