“A Gem”

My husband and I stayed at 18 on Crox for 2 nights on the last leg of our holiday in South Africa. Mere words cannot do justice to this gem of a place. The minute you step into 18 on Crox, you feel as if you have wandered into someone’s very stylish and chic home. After being suitably awed by the lovely décor, be prepared to be spoilt by both Andrew and Stephan and enjoy their fantastic hospitality. Both of them went out of their way to make us feel so welcomed. When we returned from our dinner on the first night, there were flower petals scattered by the bed and some port and chocolates were left for us in the room! Why on earth would anyone want to stay in an “ordinary” hotel when you could be treated like royalty here? This place was an absolutely lovely end to our holiday in Cape Town and the only one regret we had was that the visit here was too short! We will definitely be back, because having set such a high standard in terms of service, there can be no other place for us in Cape Town except 18 on Crox.

This is my second time at 18 on Crox and I am most certain that it won’t be my last!

Once again from the moment I arrived I was spoilt by the hosts Andrew & Stephan along their attentive staff.

Having sat down in the lounge to complete the check-in formalities I was served some delicious home made lemonade and then shown to my room where my bags were already placed and my jacket already hung in the wardrobe. These guys must have some magical touch as I for one never saw them haul any of my bags and clutter into my room. Genius!

This time I was in the room by the pool which opens out onto the courtyard and the soothing sound of water is most relaxing.
The healthy breakfasts were fabulous. Having stayed in many establishments during my visit I was tired of heavy cooked breakfasts and really enjoyed some wonderful fruit, yogurt & cereals. The aroma of freshly baked breads and pastries is hard to resist though!

I didn’t have a car during this leg of my stay and I can honestly say it wasn’t necessary. We walked to the Waterfront a couple of times (20 minutes) and started every morning with our early morning run along the promenade which is about 5 minutes away.

On this occasion I spent 2 nights in Room 1 which is by the pool and then I spent a further night in Room 2. Both are extremely well appointed though I particularly liked Room 2 which, although slightly more compact, has two sundecks to choose from.

I will be back in Cape Town later this year and I have already made a reservation to secure my stay at this gem of a hotel.

This hotel will be one of the highlights of your stay - maybe THE highlight. If you stay in a 5 star chain hotel you'll get a decent room and a grand foyer, but here you'll get a beautiful room and top-class service from Andrew and Stephan. And it will cost you less than the 5-star. We stayed in rooms 1 and 2. They're both beautifully done wih clever lighting, stylish linen and trendy bathrooms. Apparently there's a luxury suite, no 4 - can only guess what that's like! Andrew listened patiently to what we wanted to do and made appropriate bookings, including taxi pickups. He really cares about every detail of what he does and gives sensitive service that is never intrusive. Breakfast is fantastic - almost an art form - and we loved the port and sherry, Easter eggs and jelly beans!

We actually managed to mess up our return flight dates - a big mess-up as we needed to get back to Hong Kong. Andrew researched other flights and rang airlines, and we got the problem sorted. Where else would you get help like that?

Thanks Andrew for a fantastic stay - we'd be back like a shot!

We had high expectations for this B&B and they never proved wrong from the moment i entered this property...
The location is great, only 10 minutes from the main beaches, 5 minutes from V&A Waterfront and Downtown (distances by car). Its also close to the touristic bus stops, so if you don't want to drive a car in Cape Town go for it as they work until early evening or just grab a cab as public transportation in this city isn't really recommended for security and comfort reasons.
The place is in a secluded street that is just a little hard to find, but once you make it, you will never forget the way to get there (Try to use always High Level Road as the referrence point). So everything around is very clean, peaceful and very secure.
The interiors are truly amazing with an excellent taste of decoration, with a pool that looks almost like a Spa and it continues with the bedrooms and our Room 2 was so comfortable, cozy and warm... we never had problems sleeping!!
Then breakfast was quite complete starting always with a nice bowl of fresh fruits, cereals and yoghurt, followed by croissants, toasts, cheese, butter and a muffin... we were really full with so much stuff to eat! And the atmosphere for breakfast was very romantic with candlelights inside or in the nice esplanade outside.
Then Andrew was always available to assist in suggestions for sightseeing, restaurants, best places to relax and providing any information needed so he and Stefan were always very polite and available to help you out without hesitating. We can't also forget their beautiful dog, so cute!!
About the city and surroundings, i would like to highlight the following attractions:
1. V&A Waterfront: shops, restaurants, boat trips, animation, aquarium, craft markets and basically where all the action is!!
2. Green Point: Very nice Lighthouse, good nightlife and a great japanese restaurant (Wakami)
3. Camps Bay: Great beach scene with the 12 Apostle as a wonderful scenario behind, with some interesting restaurants and clubs
4. Table Mountain: a must go with beautiful views from around the city, Hout Bay, False Bay and even Cape Point!! And enjoy the ride quite similar to the Alps in the cableway!!
5. City Hall: beautiful classical style building with a nice square just in front of it.
6. Outside the city: Hout Bay, Noordhoek, Chapman's Peak Drive, Betty's Bay, Simon's Town, Cape National Park all with views to die for with excellent scenic drives... just go for it!!
7. Milnerton Beach & Lagoon for Sunset lovers with a tremendous view from Table Mountain and the Ocean.... only 10-15 minutes away from city centre
8. Robben Island for history lovers
9. Wine route to Franshoek or Stellenbosch if wine appreciators!
10. Garden Route if you have time until you get to Plettenberg bay (2-3 days) passing by Mossel Bay, George and Knysna.
The things i disliked most were just the fact the rooms only had shower and that we don't really have any great views, but everything inside makes up for that!! So i would definitely go back to this guesthouse, when i return to Cape Town! Great Work Andrew and Stefan, please keep on going! If any doubts subsist please see the pictures...

It couldn't been a nicer stay in Cape Town. Not only the hosts, Andrew and Stephen, also the location, the design and the service of this guest house is more than excellent.
It is rare to find a place where so much attention is put into small details. Guy's, you do a great job. Thanks and we sure come again. Uli and Juli
