I stayed for ten days in May 07 while working in Cape Town. My hosts chose this over a hotel since it is a bit more relaxed and informal (and cheaper!).
The guest house is what I would describe as shabby chic/boutique. The breakfast room and two drawing room areas were smart with nice coffee tables, sofas etc. Loads of nice coffee table books on Cape Town plus novels if you are bored! Decor is gentlemans club crossed with country mansion, on a smaller scale.
The room I was in had a nice big bed with fluffy white pillows and cool white cotton sheets. The floors are varnished hardwood (original?) and there are antique side tables and wardrobe. Shower over bath in a large tiled ensuite bathroom.
I had breakfast on one day only and it was good.
The manager and staff are very smiley and polite and run a slick operation - The small garden is immaculate, not a spec of dust anywhere.
There are a number of good restaurants and bars within a five minute walk (two within a one minute walk). It is a safe residential area but very convenient for going into town or over to Camps Bay, Table Mountain etc. There is a stop for the opne top bus tour in the next street. Cab from Waterfron is R50.
It should be noted that there is no WiFi (but there is an internet PC for guest to use), no aircon and it is not easy to have an incoming call put through to your room 24/7. There are no tea and coffee facilities in the room but there is a bottle of sherry with two glasses!
I would recommend this to those who don't want to stay in a swanky hotel but do not want a nasty B and B like you get in the UK! You never feel like you are in somewone else's house since I suspect that you are not!
