“5 star treatment.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2012

I read all the other comments on tripadvisor before we booked and thought if Blackhealth Lodge was half as good as stated, then we should enjoy ourselves.
In fact it was as good as everyone said it would be and Antony made sure we were treated like 5 star guests.
Thanks again to all the beautiful staff that made our stay a GREAT experience.

From the friendly staff, the beautiful rooms and unique decor - we couldn't fault it. The owner Antony couldn't do enough for us. We're already looking forward to coming back again!

Sometimes, when on vacation, you just want a place to stay because the vacation is all about why you are at that location or doing during the day/evening. But that is NOT the case when you stay at Blackheath, because Blackheath becomes part of your vacation experience. The staff relaxes you the minute you are greeted. The rooms are so welcoming, it is tempting to just lounge about instead of enjoying Cape Town. The breakfasts are as nutritious or as fattening you want your breakfast to be. And the staff must have been recruited using a friendliness scale, because EVERYONE ends up as your friend - whether you planned it that way or not. You just can't beat this experience!!

Room Tip: They are ALL great and unique.

My partner and I stayed at the Blackheath Lodge for five nights in May, 2012. It was the highlight of a three-week trip to Africa (two weeks of which were spent in South Africa). As soon as we were greeted (by name) at the front door upon checking-in, and stepped foot into the immaculately decorated and maintained common area, we knew we had arrived at a special place. Antony, John, and their crew do a fantastic job of creating a guesthouse were the facilities are top notch and every detail has been attended to, yet, they have still created an environment where guests can feel free to casually make themselves at home, be it by curling up with a book by the fireplace or pool, or chatting with other guests on the breakfast veranda.

The rooms themselves are each unique and spotless. We had merely the standard room, yet were completely satisfied with every aspect of the room.

Every aspect of the stay has been examined and planned, so guests enjoy an intimate guest house while not loosing out on any comforts that a larger hotel may offer; there is, for example, a mobile phone in the room for guests to make inexpensive local calls; free DVDs available for rent for a night in; There is free wifi throughout the hotel; a bar and snacks available all day and evening; and there is even a rental car available at the lodge for a daily fee. The breakfast in the morning is included in the room rate, and the buffet leaves you wanting nothing more, however, hot breakfast items are available on order at no extra charge.

Although it is a small, intimate guesthouse, there is still a staff member available 24 hours a day on premises. Antony in particular goes out of his way to make himself available to all guests all day. For example, during breakfast in the morning, he is on the breakfast veranda simply to answer all questions about Cape Town and help guests plan their visit.

There is a small pool if you prefer to relax one day at the lodge.

The neighborhood, Sea Point, is about a 30-45 minute walk from Central Cape Town (and the waterfront). The location was ideal for us - a five minute walk to the oceanside boardwalk, and slightly removed from the hustle of downtown, while the neighborhood itself offers all facilities a guest could want: pharmacies, restaurants, convenience stores (7-11), etc.

I can't imagine coming to Cape Town and staying anywhere else. As a cabin crew member, I am fortunate enough to stay at four and five star hotels across the globe, but I insist that it is hard to top a stay at the Blackheath Lodge. I can't wait to return!

Room Tip: Even standard rooms are fantastic.

I ended my 2 week long Cape Town trip here and I'm sooo happy I did. It is the perfect place to stay! I loved everything! The hotel is small, charming and beautiful, located in a quaint and quiet neighborhood close to everything. Antony (the owner) is attentive and full of advice on planning while the entire staff is just plain wonderful. Breakfast everyday was fabulous and everything on the property is neat, clean, and well cared for. I stayed in 2 other hotels on this trip - 1 in Rondebosch and 1 in Central - and both cannot/ do not compare at all. Blackheath doesn't miss a beat!!! I traveled solo this time, but I will definitely be returning with loved ones in the future. I didn't want to leave... And I think a piece of my heart is still there...

We stayed at Blackheath Lodge on the last part of what has been a wonderful trip to South Africa. It was certainly a very special way to end our trip.We had been on a week long safari so to come to this Blackheath Lodge and be pampered was perfect!
The house itself has so much charm and character. It has all of the amenities that make for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
Antony and staff were so welcoming and made us feel like part of the family - even the cat was there to greet with a warm welcome.
Made to order breakfast, cookies and goodies were delicious - a perfect way to start and end our days. Even the pool in the beautiful courtyard was super. We sat on the comfy lounge chairs and had a cocktail before heading out for the evening.
If you're thinking about booking a stay here - stop thinking about it and book it now, you won't regret it!
