“Lovely Boutique Hotel in Cape Town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

We enjoyed our stay at Cape Cadogan which was part of our honeymoon in South Africa. The staff were very friendly and we were upgraded to a luxury room! We felt very safe at this location which is located in the city and not far from Table Mountain. The breakfasts were delicious and in addition to the fruit, cheese and cereal buffet you also ordered eggs, pancakes, omelets etc... During the evenings there were complimentary appetizers and port/ sherry. We also had treats delivered to our room in the evenings. A lovely property to stay in.

Great location in the Gardens. Lovely building and architecture. Superb room and lovely stone floored bathroom. Staff were very helpful. Superb breakfast. Free sherry and port in the evening! Couldn't have asked for more.

We had a great visit with this hotel. The staff were very attentive, and eager to please. Great location for exploring Cape Town, yet still a very private feeling to it. My wife and I were there on honeymoon and loved it, it struck exactly the right cord for a romantic getaway. We got great advice on sights and restaurants, but never felt "intruded on" by the staff. We'd heartily recommend the Cape Cadogan to anyone

We spent our last night of our holiday here recently. We couldn't have chosen better. The staff were all fabulous. We were welcomed warmly and immediately offered a drink in the lounge and then shown our very comfortable room. We were helped with choosing a restaurant for the evening and before we left for dinner enjoyed a complimentary sherry and smoked salmon blini by the fire in the lounge. The location is right on Kloof st which is full of restaurants, bars and clubs. The next day we weren't leaving for the airport until 7 pm but our cases were stored for us without hesitation and a room promised for us to use to freshen up for our flight. All in all we were very happy with our stay here.

In general the hotel is looking tired... paintwork is peeling in places. Our room was ok, but the light in the bathroom didn't work properly, so you end up showering in the dark!

Nice restaurant area, and the service is good (as it is in SA in general).
But no food available during the day, and the pool is tiny and loses sunlight around 4pm.

We even had paint on the handle of the door...sounds minor but gives an indication that attention to detail is lacking.

Position is ok, but at the other end of town from main hotels and waterfront area. But it's a small city ,so only cost about £4 by taxi to get across town.

Maybe shop around before booking.

Dear Guest

Thank you for writing a review of our Hotel. All of us at the hotel spend our lives looking after our valued guests and therefore we take any constructive feedback such as you have written, very personally.

I can assure you that the maintenance team is busy painting our hotel on a daily basis, primarily due to the fact that the Hotel is a National Monument and is over two hundred years old. These very things mean that we have to constantly maintain. I am deeply sorry about the paint on your door handle.

On the location of the hotel, I beg to differ slightly in terms of not being close to other hotels. We are within 5 minute walking distance from two of Cape Town's big five star hotels. Yes we are not at the Waterfront but we are in a really authentic area of Cape Town where the Capetonians like to come and play.

I am truly sorry that you didn't fully enjoy your stay with us as others on this forum have. Once again thank you for the review and I wish you all the best in the future

KInd Regards

Andy Paterson

My Hhsband and I stayed at Cape Cadogan early in November and were thrilled with this gem of a boutique hotel. Our room, #3, just behind the trellis of jasmine, was fabulous with a beautiful bathroom and little secret patio. The breakfasts, sitting inside or outside around the spa, were deliciious and the tea in the afternoon was welcome after sightseeing. The free shuttle to the wharf was a bonus. The best thing about Cape Cadogan were the staff members. Megan, Wisdom, and Dale, were welcoming and warm and quickly answered any qestions, booked our Robben Island and Table Mountain tickets, and generally made our visit smooth. Can't recommend it enough!

Room Tip: Room #3 was quiet and well located.

We stayed at this beautiful hotel for 13 days. We decided to stay at this one location and rent a car to travel to Winelands, Hermanus, Cape Hope and other sites. What a great idea!!! We loved coming back to our "large" room #8 to find everything neat and clean. Wisdom, Pelo and Meaghan were all wonderful and Cliff did an excellent job caring for our car. This location was so convenient to all shops and restaurants. We just loved Cape Cadogan will definitely recommend to our friends.
