“Cape Standard Dec 2008 -”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2008

As we got there we were assigned a room on the back of the house, close to the road. Too hot, no balcony, noisy (for us). The manager accepted with no hesitation to move us to room n° 9. Excellent. The staff is very polite, very helpful and makes you feeling at home. The place is clean, the bed is comfortable and safe. There is also a computer with internet connection free of charge at the disposal of the guests. As far as our opinion can count, we recommend this accommodation to any tourist in search for a good quality staying in the beautiful Cape Town, at a reasonable price.

This is a great hotel with a nice homely feel. The service is most definately 5 star.

The team have managed to achieve the perfect balance of being extremely friendly whilst working efficiently and making you feel like an important guest - not easy (in some hotels it can be quite sterile with fake smiles).

We stayed in the downstairs room and the beds are the most comfortable I have ever slept on and the home cooked breakfast is superb.

We were due to go on Rovos Rail after our stay and at the 11th hour my husband realised he had forgotten to pack his tie. David (the owner) pulled out all the stops and rang around his neighbours to beg and borrow a tie to ensure we were not embarrassed at dinner that evening. Nothing was too much trouble.

Thanks again for a wonderful stay. I would definately return and highly recommend it.

Myself and a friend spent 7 nights in total at this lovely guest house. What a wonderful place to stay and we would recommend it 100%. The rooms are clean, spacious, modern and we had a large walk in shower! The communal areas and outside space are also decked out in a minimalist/modern style and the breakfast served was fantastic. It's in a great location too, near to the waterfront. What made our stay so memorable though was the staff employed at the guest house. The managers on duty were so very helpful, friendly and could not do enough for us - booking taxis, trips, phoning places on our behalf (eg to try and book Robben Island), hiring cars for us etc. All members of staff were incredibly helpful and so friendly. We will definitely be returning and would recommend it to friends/family going to Cape Town. Cannot recommend this guest house enough!

Modern, clean, simple and high design. The Cape Standard truly stands out amongst the many guest houses in this area. Located at the northern district of Green Point, the Cape Standard provides off street parking in a cul-de-sac and easy access to all locations downtown, including the V&A Waterfront. The beaches are a short 10 minute drive away and you can reach the airport in 30 minutes for super-early flights.

David, the owner, provided us with the 2 best dining recommendations during our stay in Cape Town and he graciously makes a stay at the guesthouse feel like a stay in his own home. Peter, James, and Margo, the managers, were all very helpful and personable. We enjoyed chatting with them and they took the time to get to know us.

In-room TV, minibar, laundry service, a very comfortable bed with high-count cotton sheets, a hot and cold breakfast, plus a HUGE shower add up to make the Cape Standard an excellent value for money. There is also a computer provided for free internet access. This is one guest house that really knows what guests want and delivers in spades.

The website has accurate photos of the place and I highly recommend a stay here, especially during the winter times when there's not much use staying by the beaches.

One note--if you like to sleep in, ask for a room away from the stairs as it can get noisy downstairs in the breakfast area.

The rooms were not only stylish but also very comfy - apparently they had a colour designer there which accounts for a great "feel" of both our room and the lounge. Also staff, I must say, was extremely helpful in every respect, the manager on duty not only helped us coordinate our daily activities, he even made a couple of phone calls on our behalf, helping us to sort out some business with our rental car firm, etc. The last morning we had to leave for the airport at 4 a.m. and staff prepared two bowls of fruit salad for us and put them in our minibar so we wouldn't have to leave with an empty stomach! Full points in every respect from us! The value-for-money ratio in our opinion is absolutely unbeatable!

What a pleasure finding a guest house that is professionally run by caring people who go out of their way to make one's stay with them a success. Good position, understated above average decor, good matresses- highly recommended!

Would NOT recommend this hotel. I slipped down their poorly-designed external steps during a storm and hurt myself badly. Was dismissed by hotel, no accident record taken, little assistance offered, vaguely irritated with my husband and me for bringing it up again the following day. Basically didn't want to acknowledge any liability. I have been left with a permanent injury requiring long-term physical therapy....and during my honeymoon of all times...

We were horrified to hear about this experience at our guesthouse – as owners, we were not aware of the event until reading about it online. We immediately addressed it with the manager on duty at the time. While he gave a different version of the events, the comfort of our guests is of the utmost importance to us and we have therefore taken the appropriate action to prevent anything similar from happening in future. We will, as always, continue to strive to offer our guests a quality service and comfortable stay.
