“A quality hotel that you will enjoy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2013

We stayed at the Southern Sun Cape Sun as part of a group tour and we enjoyed the stay at this fine hotel. The staff was very professional and attentive. The morning buffet was superlative. The only downside was the size and amenities in the gym - only a few treadmills and a chilly small indoor pool. I would definitely stay there again. Try to get a room with a Table Mountain view.

Room Tip: Table Mountain view.

In last 02 months have visited this hotel twice (27-30 September & 18-21 October) with a group size of 30 & 60 respectively. During each stay I have received complaints from my fellow group members that their important valuables along with some cash has been stolen from room during cleaning.

I have raised this matter to front office and ask them to call Police but Police also never turned up inspite of our follow ups.

I think apart from these bulgary issue am quite pleased with this property and thier services. If hotel could manage to resolve this issue then my promise to them for more future groups.

Room Tip: Corners rooms are more spacious than others, so try to block corners on higher floors.

Dear NITIN2086
Thank you for taking the time to do a review on the Cape Sun.

With regards to the incidents you have referred to, the outcome of the first alleged incident has been sent to the Tour Operator - it has been confirmed through a thorough investigation that there was no negligence and / or involvement from the Hotel's side or any of our staff members or contractors in the incident.

The second alleged incident is still under investigation and feedback will be sent to the Tour Operator as soon as the investigation into the matter has been concluded.

We truly regret that you feel agrieved, however we will always have our guests' best interest at heart and therefore thorough investigations have to run their course in light of the seriousness of the allegations that have been made.

We hope to welcome you back to the Cape Sun in the not too distant future.

The view from my window on the 28th floor was amazing...Table Mountain in all it's glory; the breakfast buffet was wonderful with a great variety and great tasting made to order omelets and smoothies (these were my favorite); the staff was very pleasant and accommodating; rooms were super clean and a good size, and the shower had lots of hot water and good pressure. The location was good too, in the middle of downtown Capetown with a shuttle running every 30 minutes to the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront with it's mall and many restaurants. Safety was not an issue while it was daylight, but you do not want to be wandering too far from the hotel at night. Also enjoyed the glass elevators. All in all, it has become one of my favorite hotels.

Room Tip: The higher the better...try to get a room with a view of Table Mountain.

We were staying in this Hotel while on a Smartours Tour in August 2013.

Hotel staff is excellent.
Rooms are nice and clean.
Our room was on 22 floor and had amazing view on Table Mountain.
This Hotel has great location in center of the town. You can walk to ATM, restaurant, street shopping and even you can walk 20 min to a Waterfront.

The best Tip for this Hotel is...
There is a FREE shuttle bus from this Hotel to the Waterfront every 30 min.
This is very convenient if you plan to eat then go back to the hotel, and come back at night for some night life at the Waterfront or do some shopping during the day.
Our friends stayed at different hotel in Cape Town 2 months after we wre there, and they have to pay around $20 each time they wanted to go to the Waterfront.

Enjoy your stay in Southern Sun Cape Sun, and keep traveling.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a view on Table Mountain.

Stayed here for four days sometime back. Fantastic views of the Table Mountain but depending on the room allocated. Service was excellent. Had a minor problem with the safe in the room and a hotel staff was at the door barely seconds after I put the phone down. Don't bother setting your alarm; they'll wake you up with a call if you do request. Excellent food. Very friendly staff. Reliable wifi.

This hotel has a certain old world charm, although all the modern amenities you need are included! Beautiful old staircases and decor, the views are amazing either on the V&A Waterfront or table mountain. Going up in the lift is an experience, not for the faint hearted! The staff are very helpful and friendly. The little touches like the pianist playing at breakfast just rounds off the experience.

Great view of Table Mountain and nice room, helpful staff. They cautioned about going out in the neighborhood after dark but we did anyway, late afternoon at least and sunset and enjoyed the picturesque part of town with colorful cafes and restaurants - Addis in Cape for Ethiopian food was fun, food delicious. The buffet dinner and breakfast at the hotel also fantastic. Nice that they give you free shuttle service to the Waterfront. We walked there. About a half hour walk and took the shuttle back.

Room Tip: ask for a view of Table Mountain
