“Very good hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

We were staying in this Hotel while on a Smartours Tour in August 2013.

Hotel staff is excellent.
Rooms are nice and clean.
Our room was on 22 floor and had amazing view on Table Mountain.
This Hotel has great location in center of the town. You can walk to ATM, restaurant, street shopping and even you can walk 20 min to a Waterfront.

The best Tip for this Hotel is...
There is a FREE shuttle bus from this Hotel to the Waterfront every 30 min.
This is very convenient if you plan to eat then go back to the hotel, and come back at night for some night life at the Waterfront or do some shopping during the day.
Our friends stayed at different hotel in Cape Town 2 months after we wre there, and they have to pay around $20 each time they wanted to go to the Waterfront.

Enjoy your stay in Southern Sun Cape Sun, and keep traveling.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a view on Table Mountain.

Stayed here for four days sometime back. Fantastic views of the Table Mountain but depending on the room allocated. Service was excellent. Had a minor problem with the safe in the room and a hotel staff was at the door barely seconds after I put the phone down. Don't bother setting your alarm; they'll wake you up with a call if you do request. Excellent food. Very friendly staff. Reliable wifi.

This hotel has a certain old world charm, although all the modern amenities you need are included! Beautiful old staircases and decor, the views are amazing either on the V&A Waterfront or table mountain. Going up in the lift is an experience, not for the faint hearted! The staff are very helpful and friendly. The little touches like the pianist playing at breakfast just rounds off the experience.

Great view of Table Mountain and nice room, helpful staff. They cautioned about going out in the neighborhood after dark but we did anyway, late afternoon at least and sunset and enjoyed the picturesque part of town with colorful cafes and restaurants - Addis in Cape for Ethiopian food was fun, food delicious. The buffet dinner and breakfast at the hotel also fantastic. Nice that they give you free shuttle service to the Waterfront. We walked there. About a half hour walk and took the shuttle back.

Room Tip: ask for a view of Table Mountain

Went with family, this hotel has great location, free shuttle bus from hotel to waterfront runs every hour. The hotel have fantastic rooms with beautiful view of one of my preferred cities in the world, Cape Town. Great staff, new arrivals are greeted with champagne, juice or sodas plus home made cookies. Just around the corner you find an stop for the Hop On-Hop Off sightseen Bus. (there are two routes, one for the city which is the red line and one for the peninsula which is the blue. The cost is around US$ 15.00 per person, 24 hours. There is a place across the hotel where you can exchange your money WITHOUT FEES, the hotel will also do it but with fees that make you loose around 14%. Almost every place takes a credit card. TIP: DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CREDIT CARD OUT OF YOUR SIGHT AT ANY MOMENT. They will bring the POS to your table or wherever you are. if not, go with the person yourself.
There are plenty of restaurant around the hotel, in particular for lunch, for dinner you can go to the Waterfront where restaurants close late. Prices in general are lot less expensive than in USA, food in particular is very inexpensive. Vegetables and fruits are fresh and most foods do not have chemicals so they are tasteful and healthy. YOU CAN DRINK TOP WATER WITHOUT A PROBLEM unless you like bottled water. Breakfast buffet included is one of the best I have seen.

Room Tip: Higher floors have a great view of the city. Since hotel is in downtown, there is no noise at night.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here at the Cape Sun, though the area seemed a little dodgy, especially at night. We did venture out on foot one evening, but not really comfortable with this.

Great food, really nice rooms, a little gym on the top floor which was useful. Great view of table mountain. Very cold though this September and was more like winter.

One must take their rooms on the higher floors of this hotel. The check in was fabulous. They greeted us with hot chocolate on our arrival which really helped us cool our nerves after a hectic travel of 2 days. The hotel is very well maintained considering it has a lot of rooms. The scenic views of cape town, one of the most beautiful cities in the world are not worth missing. The location is very close to the good night life that is available for youngsters.
