“Uphill all the way - but worth it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

Do not leave this too late in the day, if you are hiking in the summer. it gets intensely hot up there. Take water, and a hat. It's uphill all the way, but you go round the peak and get incredible views - on one side of the City Bowl and Table Mountain, on the other, the sprawl of Camps Bay beneath the Hottentots-Holland mountains. Some bits take you into the shade, thank heavens, we found ourselves panting from the heat! We only walked up to the ladder - this took us an hour. Although we hike regularly, we are by no means at peak fitness - we were told the entire trip to the top would take an hour, so we were disappointed in only reaching the Ladder before time constraints meant we had to turn back. There is good parking for cars at the bottom of the hill, free. And a small booth selling a basic selection of water

“Awesome hike”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

A relatively short hike up to the peak. Should take about an hour to go up for a person of average fitness.

Some of the best views in Cape Town. The views are also 360degree views! The hike up also has 'the chains' which is basically for the slightly more adventurous - it's rock climbing on a smaller scale. Highly recommended.

Try to go near full moon for the moonlight hike. Start just before the sun set, watch the moon come up, and hike down in the moonlight. Avoid the day of full moon as it gets very crowded.

Take some water and sandwiches as there are no shops up on top!

“One of our favourite walks around Cape Town.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

If the guide book tells you this is straightforward and will only take you 45 minutes to get up then you would have to be young and very fit. Allow 1hour 30 minutes to get and go early morning to avoid the heat of the day. There are a couple of ladders and a little hand work up some small sections but these are fairly straight forward. The views are just wonderful.

“Great Views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

Parking is easy and the first part of the walk a steady climb on a dusty path which then turns to boulders and steps but still relatively easy although there are handgrips and a ladder at one point.
Great views over the Bay, Cape Town itself and of course up to Table Mountain.
It can get very windy so be cautious and take plenty of water and sunblock.

This is a fantastic short hike with amazing views of Cape Town and the coast, and of course with Table Mountain in the background.
