This popular funicular is not able to run many days because of wind conditions. We were very fortunate that it was operating on the day we were scheduled to ride it to Table Mountain. A great ride!!! We so enjoyed this famous cableway.
Prepare to queue, but it wasn't too bad when we were there. You need to get in the car early if you are short like me as not everone will get a window view. The floor of the car rotates to give everone a 360 view but it is a little disconcerting as there is nothing to hold onto. Amazing viewson a clear day. Apparently it is often closed due to high winds so keep your fingers crossed!
On our first attempt to use this method of getting to the top of the mountain we arrived at about 11:00 a.m., only to find queues over 300 meters long of people waiting to get on the cable car. We gave up, and went to Cape of Good hope instead. the following day we arrived at 8:30 in the morning, and had no trouble getting on and up the mountain. One note. the floor rotates to give everyone in the car a chance to look out the open section, but some people will walk against the rotation and try to stop you getting a view.
I got to there by riding red bus and couldn't enjoy more! " This was hilarious" you get many feedbacks that hicking is never good if not in an organized group thus best alternative option is to go on aerial cableway. "drivers" are gracious and the fact the floor rotates while moving up/down made the ride amazing.
Everything you'd expect from a cable ride to a famous mountain top. It's pot-luck about how it all goes. We were lucky. The mist cleared at the top. The weather was brilliant. No queues for tickets and only a few in our car. how cool was all that? Wonderful experience but I agree with other contributors - watch the gift shop. It's so expensive you could pay of the Nation Debt buy just purchasing a Tea Towel.
