“Worth a day trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2014

we arrived in the afternoon and took the free 90 minutes guided tour, although the volunteer guide could have gone on longer but we had to leave to drop off our hire car. As already said in other reviews, this is an outstanding site with indigenous species, beautifully laid out, and whilst it was the end of the summer so little colour, it was still worth while. There is a brail trail for the blind and an aroma walk. We wished we'd come early, brought a picnic, and spent the day there. The gift shop has some wonderful merchandise with painted fabric items ideal for gifts such as tea towels, aprons, table cloths and mats, all in vivid colours of flowers such as the proteas, lillies and bird of paradise. The trees, plants and flowers also attract the birds, particularly the sunbirds, and there are roaming guinea fowl and francolin. it is a real paradise.

“Eden”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2014

A must if you like gardens and stunning scenery. Pam, our guide, was so enthusiastic it was contagious. Very good food served in the restaurant. Book early if you want to take in one of the Sunday night concerts under the stars.

“Beautiful oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2014

We had a couple of hours to spend at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens during a tour and it was way too short. The area is huge and very peaceful and quiet. One could easily spend a whole day there. It was very interesting to see the different plant species and the background with the mountains was splendid. Do allow at least half a day !

“Went back for a second day it was soooo beautiful.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2014

We went first on a Sunday, and there were lots of families, picnics, etc. We enjoyed it so much, we went back on a week day when it was much less crowded. So much to see here if you love gardens. Lucky people who live in Cape Town can go over and over. Jealous in Austin ;-)

“Could be 5 star had my visit been in spring”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2014

Just outside Cape town, on the foot of the other side of the Table mountain. Easy to find. Open until sunset.
Start in the info center, where the lady there can advice you on a trail to fit your time frame.
There is a conservatory initially which is good. The land of the garden is multi tiered, and extensive. Quite a bit of climbing up which could be tiring in hot weather.
One tea house (Average) and Cafe (Below average)
The plants are diverse, and more than enough explanation on the plants available to read if interested.
For me the highlights were the "Scent" garden and the "Camphor" road.
