Don't leave Cape without a visit. Outstanding array of flora. Impressive location and stunning views over the city. Great art exhibition in the visitor's centre with beautiful local artwork.

“Not to be missed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

We arrived at this site after a long day of touring so we weren't particularly excited about spending and hour more in a botanical garden. We were soon overwhelmed by the beauty of the thousands of rare and exotic trees, flowers, and other plants. The gardens are laid out in and around large grassy fields which make it both warm and attractive as well as giving it a feel like prehistoric Jurassic Park.
We did not regret a moment we spent there absorbing the sights and smells of this most magnificent garden. Even if you are not a plant lover, a stroll through this garden on the side of Table Mountain, should prove a true highlight of your trip to Cape Town.

“Superb but at least a half day needed.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

The guide to enter is not very informative and we ended up doing a lot of walking and not managing to see the important areas. It is huge in size.

“Quite average all round”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

We pretty much always visit botanical gardens wherever we go but this was quite a disappointment. The gardens are on the North side of Table Mountain and the views are of the industrial region of Cape Town and not the Ocean or port. The gardens are set on a very steep hillside and it is a quite a walk. There really wasn't that much of interest on the trails - and it really was just a nice place to have a picnic as opposed to see anything particularly exotic. All in all I would no prioritize this over other things to do in the area if you are on a short stop - we had a hire car but noticed that the city tour on-off buses stopped here so the gardens could be done as part of a day trip.

“World class botanical gardens”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

Wonderful gardens in a beautiful set.
Very well taken care off, the Kirstenbosch NBG offers a very enjoyable tour as well as other activities (e.g. open air movie sessions) making it a must see in Cape Town.
