“Good overview of Jewish migration from Europe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2014

Apart from the obligatory ephemera of Jewish life and worship, this museum has constructed a replica of an Eastern European village (reminiscent of Fiddler on the Roof). It's quite well done, and the exhibits and notice boards put the story into context. The Synagogue is attractive and is also worth a visit.

“Be sure to have photo ID with you - or you wont get in”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2014

If you have time, have the guide take you around. We didn't and found ourselves skimming around the museum not really taking much in. The art gallery was good and the Japanese collection was lovely. The Holocaust displays were as moving as you would expect and we came away with a very good impression of the whole experience.

“A must for visitors to Cape Town interested in its history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2014

We visited the museum because we are Jewish but feel that this would be interesting for none Jews as their is a link to Apartheid and the Holocaust. It's also interesting to see how much of the development of South Africa was influenced by the Jewish settlers. For anyone that has read The Hare with Amber Eyes and is interested in Japanese Netsuke carvings there is a most wonderful display that has it's own section of the museum. Adjacent to the museum is the oldest synagogue in South Africa.

“SA Jewish Museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2014

I was pleasantly surprised by this museum. The building itself was very modern with clean lines. The museum staff was friendly and very helpful. The exhibits were well done, provided information in an easy to read format and very informative. I would recommend taking the time to go to this museum and visit all 3 floors.

“Very Moving”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2014

Visited on Wednesday 15/01/2014.This is one of the best museums in Cape Town and the Holacost exhibition so moving all should make it compulsory as part of any trip to Cape Town.
The tribute to the Jewish community by Nelson Mandela in his fight for freedom is superb.
I strongly recommend this two you all
