“Easy to get to with great historical value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

So much has been handed into the museum from Cape Townians who had the items in their family. Brings it home to one. Its a museum that everyone should see. Its also beautifully laid out

“Litvak life in SA”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

Very interesting for anyone who has an interest in the history of the Jews in South Africa. The main section of the museum documents the life of the Litvaks before the left Lithuania, and after they arrived in South Africa.
A special exhibition is on at the moment on life in in District Six, which was flattened during the apartheid experiment.
An excellent kosher cafe is attached, and good book shop selling Judaica and other items relating to the exhibitions.

“Lovely, informative, interesting complex--much to offer”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

The South Africa Jewish Museum is part of a complex including the lovely 1863 synagogue which is the entrance to the musem (the first synagogue built in South Africa), as well a the Gardens Shul, the magnificent 1905 synagogue right next door which is still in use. The free Cape Town Holocaust Center is part of the complex and should not be missed. There is also a cafe and gift shop. Entrance fee is a reasonable 40 Rand (about $4.50). The museum is in the Company's Garden area.of Cape Town.

This modern, informative museum was opened in 2000 by Nelson Mandela and tells the story of Jews in South Africa. There was terrific exhibits, videos, interactive media and pictures. The is a full scale model of an old Eastern European shtetl which you can tour and presently, an exhibit on District 6, an area that housed Jews, as well as blacks, Asians, etc. in the early part of the century and was torn down during the apartheid era--very moving. Do not miss this wonderful complex (note--we needed picture identification before entering the complex). Be aware that the museum is only open until 2 PM on Friday and is closed on Saturday. It is open the other days of the week.

“Heart wrenching”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013 via mobile

I visited the holocaust museum and found it to be not only informative but also very emotional. As I left I could not hold back the tears. I'm not Jewish so knew very little about what happened. To watch interviews with survivors was heart wrenching. I would suggest locals pay this centre a visit.

“Since I visited Yad Vashem in Israel, I´m not in awe, but...”

Since I visited Yad Vashem in Israel, I´m not in awe, but it is a small and nice museum, with very good taste. I recommend.
