“Heart wrenching”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

I visited the holocaust museum and found it to be not only informative but also very emotional. As I left I could not hold back the tears. I'm not Jewish so knew very little about what happened. To watch interviews with survivors was heart wrenching. I would suggest locals pay this centre a visit.

“Since I visited Yad Vashem in Israel, I´m not in awe, but...”

Since I visited Yad Vashem in Israel, I´m not in awe, but it is a small and nice museum, with very good taste. I recommend.

“Very Informative”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012

A surprisingly good holocaust and Jewish history muesem. Exhibits highlighting the experiences of survivors who moved to South Africa were very good. The museum cafe is excellent.

“Amazing museum, Fantastic Mandela film”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

This museum was very well done and easy to walk around and learn from--with the exception of some videos that were hard to see (the way the light hit the screens) and hear (a lot of ambient noise got in the the way). Still the fantastic number of photos and memorabilia and easy to read quotes and captions made this a top place to visit. We found the District 6 information to be easier to read and access than in the actual District 6 Museum, where it seemed to be wall to wall newspaper selections and hard to decide what to read. Next to this museum is the Holocaust museum, also a VERY well done history--concise and thorough. I learned more here than at the US Holocaust museum, maybe because it was so concise. We were told 30 minutes in the Holocaust museum (perfect for my friends--I took about 40 minutes) and about an hour in the Jewish Museum. BUt BE SURE to leave time for the 27 minute film interview with Mandela which covered Jewish history intertwined with ANC and anti-apartheid activities. An excellent movie, not available elsewhere. Easy to hear and see as it's in a small auditorium. Again, we learned more here than at the District 6 museum and Bo Kapp museum together (though both are definitely worth visiting).

“Very informative museum almost spoilt by security”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

Excellent museum with great displays, making great use of technology and lighting to create immersive experience. Also does a great job of showing the relevance of the subject matter to South Africa - which might not be very clear at first. Full marks for the great museum, you'll enjoy it if you get in.

Which isn't as easy as it sounds. Security standards are typically Israeli, you need to have your passports on, be patted down and go through metal detectors... Which would all be bearable if the security was not so rude!
