It is easy to be blinded of the real world if you just stay within the confines of the Waterfront and the CBD.Although watered down a bit for tourists a visit to the vast and sprawling township of Langa is an absolute must for those who want to experience life in the "other" side of Cape Town.
Try and get a local to guide you - their first-hand stories are fascinating. Be nice to everyone and they will return your smiles. Gospel church on Sunday is magic!
If you willingly go here to put your life in danger and get robbed you can only be classified as an idiot. Most of these people live this way because they want to and not because they have to. They live barbaric to say the least. I saw them beat up a guy as he was from another area and not allowed there. The rape and murder of young white girls is something boasted about while having a beer in the evening, simply sick. Not a place I would recommend to anyone.
Don't miss the chance to have a guided tour around a township.Our local guide was extremely informative and the residents do not mind having a photo taken (I personally only took photos of buildings there as didn't wish to disrespect anyone). The people were so humble and spoke to a few residents who come from all over Africa to seek shelter etc. Do also speak to the craft people who make a number of items from paintings to jewellery on site.. Very humbling but you visiting helps their economy as well as getting a little understanding of their day to day struggles. Def recommended
A very interesting insight into a township. We had a local guide-Sugar- who took us to places that you would not usually see. It's not easy to take in but should be part of your tour as it is part of Cape Town.
