We stayed here for the last couple of days of our African Honeymoon and were really looking foward to some R&R. From the website it seemed perfect and was highly recommended by our agent for honeymoon couples. We were told the villa rooms (which are least expensive) were fully booked and therefore paid the rate of a deluxe room.

When we arrived, we were quite diasppointed with the room we got. The hotel is built into the hill, and we were located at the lowest room possible, beside the main restaurant. Could see the water, but view was definitely the worst of the entire hotel being the lowest and the sunset was hidden behind trees. Though the finishings in the room were nice, there was lack of privacy on the terrace and it was extremely dark in the room. When we expressed this to the evening host (who was most pleasant), he indicated that we were last to check in and unfortunately there was nothing he could do and to check with the owners in the morning. When we noticed that our room was V4, we enquired with him to see if this was a deluxe room that we had paid for or a villa room and he indicated that it was deluxe despite it being in the villa.

The next morning we awoke to banging and scraping of chairs above us and later more noise from our bathroom window. The other villa units were above our room and the main path to the parking was beside our bathroom. Needless to say we were extremely disappointed. When I expressed this to our host in the morning at breakfast, they were accommodating to move us to a unit in the mainhouse.... once in that room, we felt very relaxed and that this is what we had expected for our stay the whole time. It had a beautiful balcony with a comfy couch and you could just relax there and enjoy the view of the water. It was unfortunate that we were put in that first room in the villa as it changed our whole experience... if booking here, I would suggest to confirm that you have a room in the mainhouse. I still wonder to this day if we paid too much for the first night.

Perks of Les Cascades - Fabulous breakfast(fresh hot croissants), beautiful accommodations, complimentary internet access, central to everything (if you have a car), good food, nice pools and fantastic view. A very nice touch was our treat from our guests congratulating us on marriage.

Minuses - There was construction next door and we were awoken early again the following weekday morning and people travelling up and down the stairs also added to the noise.

Overall the hotel itself is above average, however, given our overall experience, I would have to rate it neutral as I must say that it was not quite what we had expected.

We booked Les Cascades through an up-market UK/South African travel agent for the first hotel of our 10-day holiday. However, upon reading the reviews on Trip Advisor, we began to have second thoughts and contacted the travel agent, who re-assured us that it is one of their favourite locations in Cape Town. Given the rapport we had developed with her, we decided to take her recommendation, and have no regrets about doing so.

We arrived at Les Cascades early on a Friday afternoon, and were promptly shown into our wonderful room (and huge bathroom) in the main building, just above the dining room. Given that it was a beautiful afternoon, we decided to head straight to Table Mountain but needed to eat first. Despite the kitchen not being open, when we asked for a couple of sandwiches, which were happily and promptly provided.

Over the course of the next three days, we enjoyed fresh breakfasts (which we have become accustomed to as we are originally from Africa) al fresco, attentive and friendly service from the staff [especially William & Alan], and an overall wonderful stay. We can see this easily becoming our home-away-from-home on our future trips to Cape Town (of which we expect to be many more).

On another note, the owner, Luc, was friendly and made it a point to introduce himself to us and make sure we were well taken care of, which is the opposite of what a previous reviewer wrote. Additionally, we had no problems with theft, but that is probably because we made use of the safe in our room [unlike one of the other posters], which is common sense and practice in the developing world.

Les Cascades is excellent value for money, providing high-end luxury and service for a fair price. We will happily be recommending Les Cascades to all our friends and family who find themselves on their way to Cape Town.

“A poor introduction to South Africa”

I couldn't agree more with the post from the person in Germany.

We booked to stay in this hotel as the penultimate leg of our honeymoon. We had a most unenjoyable stay in this lovely hotel. We were made to feel most unwelcome and anything we asked of the owners was met with a note of annoyance rather than of help.

On the whole we had no problem with the staff but found the owners to be both abrasive and rude. This was obviously not just us as we witnessed other guests having heated discussions with the owners.

I would advise against staying in 'The Villa' section of this hotel if you have an aversion to the smell of cooking smoked fish (the smell never went away). I would also advise against stopping in the main lodge if you have any problems with stairs. It is a 7 flight climb from the breakfast room to the front desk.

As my wife was born in, and has visited Cape Town on a number of occasions she was disgusted that this was my introduction to South African hospitality.

I wouls advise anybody to find alternative accomodation in Cape Town as I know we would never visit the place again.

Without discussion: the setting of this small hotel is very nice. But one major thing is missing: the heart and soul! Whenever you have a question or even a problem - you immediately get the feeling: don't disturb and harrass us! Our A/C didn't work - no help whatsoever for days, our shower sink was almost completely blocked - although we have repeatedly tried to get some help, forget it. We've asked numerous times to talk to the owner - in vain. He would just not give us a single chance to discuss the problems. After all, we got hold of him - his reaction was incredible....a very unprofessionel attitude, we would almost say: choleric.
Never again!!
Having a beautiful setting and some well equipped rooms is simply not enough. Rather go to 12Apostles Hotel - they have the right attitude and a breathtaking setting!
