We had afternoon teas as we were told it was a 'must do' when visiting Cape Town. The good feeling started when, dashing through the rain, from our car to the entrance a member of staff gave us her umbrella and said to leave it at the entry - what a lovely gesture!
The afternoon tea is a buffet, rather than the more formal plated affair you would get in the UK, but actually the food is lovely and you can pick away in any order you want! The only slight criticism is that a lot of the food wasn't labelled so a bit of guesswork was required which we found rather fun. Not all of it was to our taste, but between us we tried pretty much everything.
My 8 year olds faves (apart from the smoked salmon sarnies) were the lime macaroons and the incredibly sickly, rich but moreish fudge. I can't say I disagree with her.
The tea selection and brewing was done with a lot of pomp and circumstance, which was amusing and made the dull task of tea making a lot more exciting.
I would go back if we returned to Cape Town, at around £15 for the adults and £8 for the kids it was good value and we didn't eat a thing till the next morning.
