“Best value Scharwama ”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2013

One goes to Ari for an excellent Scharwama at an affordable price. The atmosphere is very simple Greek but the great food is the highlight. Sitting in the balcony overlooking the street adds to the entire experience. One can easily while away an afternoon there.

“So-So Souvlaki”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

Ari’s Souvlaki is an unassuming affordable Greek eatery with plastic table cloths, two types of wine: red or white and honest, friendly service. You can expect Greek favourites from meze platters filled with hummus, dolmades, tzatziki to shawarma’s, skewers, and baklava.

The dolmades were moreish, tzatziki flavorful while the hummus stodgy. For mains, part of the charm is unwrapping the shawarma stuffed with garlic beef goodness. The pastry itself however is different as it is thicker and less palatable then it looks. For something different the spanakopita delivers in flavour and quantity. The food is straightforward and home cooked hearty as if you are enjoying family meal time cooked by mama.

Don’t go expecting haute cuisine, but rather a chilled, affordable meal shared with friends.

“Very disappointing!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

Ari's used to be a Sea Point legend and the place to go for late night snacks. Haven't been there for years and decided to have a souvlaki for old times sake. It was awful - cold, mushy, tasteless.

“ThE BEST SCHAWARMAS”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

Well to answer my predecessors comments below, I would not expect a great wine list, rather a great schawarmas or souvlaki which for 25-30 they have consistently delivered, in Hyde Park in 1982 I bumped into Telly Savalas and after telling him I stayed in Sea Point - then, and having known he had visited Cape Town, his first and virtually only comment to me was "Tell Ari he makes the best schawarmas in the world, on all my trips to Greece I have never had better, very close in Istanbul.

“Below Average”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013 via mobile

Range of wines is one red and one white, (the red was quite good), and beers in cans.
The atmosphere and music is authentic. The meat in the mixed grill and schwarma was not good, also the baklava had far too much cinnamon and was not good. The mousaka was average. Best part of the meal was the chips and tzatziki.
