“close to excellent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2013

The apartmentt was close to excellent.Spacious, nice interior, enough cuboard space and much better than any ordinary hotel room.We received very good and friendly service when we booked in.I did ask for a room high up ,but instead received room 102 right next to the security desk on the ground floor. They told us there were no rooms availablle higher up.For us it was a pity, because even though our apartment was very lovely,I think we would have enjoyed our 5 nights stay more if we had a apartment on one of the top floors.
Everything you need for self-catering is in the apartment.Lovely bed and linnen.Small but ,nice bathroom. There is a little lack of TLC,but it is small things like ,the wash basin tap falls close every time you open it and you have to hold it open with your hand. The rug-carpet in the lounge needs a very good wash.Small things that needs to be looked at.
The thing that makes room 102 less than excellent is the noise from the security desk at night.
The first night was very bad.We we woken by such a noise that we had to get up and ask them to be more quiet ,twice. They said they had a fire alarm problem. We understood that, but every night we could hear them talk.We got use to the noises after the third night, but it was stiil not nice.
The water taxi is R30 p/p per day and you can use the ticket the whole day.Very nice, friendly and fun.A very fine way to get to the waterfront.Just know you can only use the taxi intill 8`o`clock in the evening, but it is no problem. It is very easy to get a taxi between R30 and R50.
We would stay at the Canal Quays again, but only on one of the top floors.

Room Tip: A room on floor 3 and upwards

Great apartment with free wifi and parking. Accommodation is first class and pleasant 15-20 min walk from Capetown city centre and the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. Canal Boat stops right outside hotel and can take you to centre of Waterfront. 200 metres from International Conference Centre and Capetown Westin Hotel. Apartment serviced daily except Sunday. Very secure and central. Would definitely stay here again if visiting Capetown.

Room Tip: No pool or fitness centre that I know of but could be wrong. Think there may have been small pool o...

We booked a studio apartment. Very comfortable. Although a little out of the way the apartment is situated within a 15-20 minute walk of both Cape Town and the V & A Waterfront. Well worth the stay.
Housekeeping is everyday except Sundays.

Room Tip: The view of the canal is not worth it.

Excellent accommodation option to spend some days in Cape Town. Apartments are nicely furbished, well decorated and all is functional. Nice staff willing to help behind their responsibilities. Kitchen is fully equipped, dishwasher with cleaning tablets available, washing & drying machines as part of the apartment. It was much better standard that I expected. Location is great - just be prepared that most of taxi drivers or shuttle bus drivers will have no idea how to get there even you give them exact address. It's easily accessible from main Waterfront Area. Just ask security guards to show you safe way how you can walk otherwise if you take the wrong one after it gets dark it might not be so safe (area around and under the bridge). Security guards were very nice and helpful and even walked with us around to show us the way. Please keep on mind that tipping for a coffee is standard everywhere. I do recommend these apartments – and if I will have a chance to come back to Cape Town that will be my option again.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment for 6 nights. We found the apartment to be very comfortably, even luxuriously, decorated and equipped. There was ample space, full kitchen, large beds, and even a washer and dryer. As a family with 2 small children this was the perfect arrangement for our stay in Cape Town.

We were familiar with the area, which helped locate the apartments. For first time visitors, make sure you have a good map and the helpful directions provided by the staff when you book! Sat nav struggles to figure out the route. We loved being close to V & A waterfront (one of our favourite areas). It is only a 10-15 minute walk, although through a less than salubrious empty lot. We were with a large group so we confidently walked to and from the waterfront, both day and night. There is also the water taxi which conveniently stops right outside the apartments. This is a peaceful, short ride along the lovely canals to the waterfront.

The view from the apartments is of the working port which did not bother us, but don't expect postcard views! It is not noisy, though, which was most important to us. We would stay there again!

We liked the fact we could walk to the V&A or catch the canal boat. We liked the apartment everything you could wish for including a washing machine We liked the security. The staff on the desk all 24 hours plus you needed your room key to operate the lift. If you needed it there was a cleaner every day. Very clean. Plus an under ground car park very coooool & very secure.

The description was harbour view no no no it was a dock yard view!!! Did something get lost in translation? We were high enough up to see over the containers but men are interested in cranes moving containers onto ships and goods trains passing ~~~~ at least mine was!!!! You're out all day so if you are not bothered about the view these are superb apartments ---if you can find them! The directions are completely wrong!! They send you back on the National heading to the airport!!!! You turn LEFT not RIGHT at the end of the N1/N2 and go round the CTICC Turn left at the traffic lights (100mts). Go between the Wiston Hotel and the cticc go up to the roundabout and bear left. The apartments are at the end of a cul-de-sac. We mentioned the wrong directions to the check in staff and they just laughed and said we need to get them changed!

Room Tip: If you are high up you get a view over the containers and can see the sea!

We stayed here in March for 2 nights. The Front of House assistant, Tristan, was excellent and very welcoming so provided a good first impression of the apartment. The apartment itself was very modern, in fact looked brand new, and had all the 'mod cons' you would require for a self contained stay. It was towards the end of our stay in the Cape so it was really nice to get some washing done and sort ourselves out before heading home.

Canal Quays is marketed as part of the V&A Waterfront and I think this is stretching the truth somewhat. You can get a water taxi over or drive (5-10mins) but to walk, I would not recommend it. We asked directions in the day to go on foot and we were told to squeeze through a gap in the fence and follow the road around. This basically leads onto a grass verge next to the N1 highway where there was a number of homeless sleeping as well as broken bottles, rubbish and animal faeces. Needless to say we only did it once and would never risk it in the evening/night. There is a huge amount of work going on around the Waterfront and I think in the next few years Canal Quays will be part of this extra development and consequently getting to and fro will be easier. Having said that, taxis are easy to book either at reception or at the V&A so it didn't cause us any problems.

If you are in Cape Town on business or a family and need a place to stay for a week or so I would not be able to fault it as it has all the facilities you would want. If you are a family or couple looking at staying in the V&A for a couple of days, I would look for something a bit closer that is more accessible.
