“Tenth return visit...and as good as the first time.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2010

Consistently the very best boutique hotel in the world. Location, staff, decor and sensitivity all rate 11/10.

Absolutley fell in love with place, the staff were so friendly and nothing was to much trouble for them to help you with.
The hotel was immaculate and the breakfasts were divine and served all day, which was great if you needed an early or late start.
Can't wait to return!

We stayed at Kensington Place for 3 nights, and it was perfect. Sasha was great, very welcoming, very helpful, couldn't ask for more. She had organised every restuarant, taxis there/back, nightlife, and day trips. Great recommendations and certainly made the stay exceptionally stress free! The recommendations she made were perfect. All the other staff were great as well, I enquired over what was happening on new years eve, and I found in my bedroom later, a print off of all events plus written comments next to it. Room was gorgeous, with deck and stairway leading down to the pool. This hotel really has great service, and great little touches, like the basket full of suntan lotion and kaftans, given ice cold water whilst you are sunbathing, rose petals in the bath, nibbles every evening. Breakfasts were great, the omlette was melt in mouth and the waitress Blessing had the most beautiful smile.Fabulous.

OK - let's get straight to it. This is the PERFECT small boutique hotel. I have stayed in many wonderful small hotels over the years and Kensington Place is hands down the best of all of them. The rooms are gorgeous, soft, warm and incredibly comfortable. Great verandah to relax on with top views of Table Mountain and the city bowl. The service was first rate and beyond compare. The staff could not do enough for you, from booking restaurants to organizing taxis and any request I had. The place oozes chic charm, with gorgeous furnishings and soft lighting. It felt as if you are coming into your own home. A great small pool and lounge areas around it, with soft billowing curtains that added such charm. I found the location perfect, just out of the hustle and bustle but close enough to some great restaurants and shops. I cannot recommend Kensington Place highly enough. I would not hesitate to stay there on every future visit to Cape Town.

Amenities / Services / Decor - The quintessential hip boutique hotel. Hip but comfortable decor, hip and useful amenities (ipod doc & in room laptop!), hip and sanctuary like bathroom with sunken tub. Private patio spaces. Service top notch, offering a glass of wine on arrival, scheduling in room massages (very reasonable btw), making reservations at equally hip restaurants and generously and effortlessly coordinating any spur of the moment itinerary changes / activity desires. They even made us reservations in Franschooek for dinner, at which point we would no longer even be their guests! I couldn't imagine wanting more.
Environs - Higgovale is in an upscale residential neighborhood well within Cape Town city limits. My husband and I like to jog and doing so amongst these beautiful homes was a real treat. The neighborhood also promised quiet evenings. We much prefer this setting to big hotels in central tourist areas, in hopes of learning something about a way of life (albeit this way of life here would be for the very well off). Despite its residential surroundings, a few blocks walk (very steep hilly area though) leads to a street with many hip (oops i said it agian) restaurants. My husband and I also walked to the V&A waterfront, too, but we tend to be very active and enjoy exploring cities this way so probably too far for many. I think the circle line tourist bus thing had a stop within walking distance, too. We did that one day, too, to get around the greater Cape Town area. Finally, cabs are very reasonable wherever you'd like to go.
Safety - We felt very comfortable in this neighborhood.

Agree with everything kat2551 says below.

My wife and I kicked off our honeymoon with a 5 night stay at KP before moving on to Mauritius. It was the perfect spot for winding down after the hectic wedding build up. Nothing was too much trouble and we felt thoroughly spoiled.

I can't fault KP at all and I am extremely picky! Can't wait to return.

ps. make sure you go for a wine tour - we had a fabulous day out!

We booked Kensington Place for the first few days of our honeymoon after extensive research of various hotels in the area and we weren't disappointed. The hotel is stylish, sophisticated and oozes boutique-chic!!

We arrived at 9am after an overnight flight from the UK. We were immediately greeted by the manager, who greeted us by our first names and offered us a drink on one of the plush sofas in the reception. The surrounding were beautiful, orange trees, beautiful plants and greenery with, of course, the view of Table Mountain behind. Even though it was 9am, our room was ready - service we've never experienced anywhere else.

We had Room 7 on the ground floor - totally private, just past the pool, almost on its own wing with its own private patio. The room itself was stylish, immaculately presented and had everything you would want and more - a laptop in the room for you to use with free internet, Moulton Brown toiletries, fruit, bottled water and a bottle of champagne and a card to celebrate our honeymoon.

The hotel took charge of absolutely everything so that we could just relax and get on with our honeymoon. The pre-booked restaurant bookings (and taxis!!) were all exceptional, including a request when booked for the best seating areas (for the best views). When we weren't sure about one resturant choice on our last night the manager suggested somewhere else immediately based on our very vague request - somewhere really special for our last night in Cape Town - and it was one of the best places we have ever eaten (Pigalles - if you like grandness, live music and the opportunity to dance during courses 1950s style - please do go!). Ginga was also excellent and we both agreed we never would have booked that had we gone ourselves.

Breakfast was the best we have had for some time in any hotel - cooked to your order, and served all day (great for those who just fancy a lie in!!). It was served either outside on the terrace or inside if the weather wasn't so great. The hotel would also bring you teas or coffees on request - brought to your room along with fresh flowers - now that's service!!

On our last night they ran a bath for us filled with rose petals, and also filled the lobby with rose petals and candels too - not purely for our benefit, but for the benefit of anyone staying - it was really pretty. Even the outside seating areas had fairy lights around the trees to give it a lovely, romantic glow.

The only downside was that when we originally enquired about car hire we were told it wouldn't be a problem, just to give a days notice. When we did we were then told it was a public holiday and no cars were available in the whole of Cape Town... bad timing was mainly to blame, but had we known at the start of our stay, we might have flexed around our trip differently to accomodate the car hire. As it happens, the hotel arranged tours to the places we wanted to go to which was hassle free and with the benefit of hindsight, perhaps the best option anyway!

Cape Town is a fascinating city, Hermannus and Cape Point are also well worth a visit. We'd like to return one day (mainly to see Robbin Island as our tour was cancelled) and we wouldn't think twice about staying anywhere else apart from Kensington Place. If you like style, boutique hotels and incredible service - book it now!!
