If you are looking for a quiet and scenic Cape Town neighborhood then you should head to Sea Point, and the Winchester is the best full-service hotel in the area. You have the ocean across Beach Road in front (no swimming though!) and behind the hotel on Main Road you'll find all the shops and markets you could need. A cheap (and safe) public bus runs the route to the V&A Waterfront, and private tourist buses will take you to other sites in the city.

The Winchester is truly a beautiful hotel, with a stylish blend of classic architecture and modern elegance that I was admiring throughout. Had the weather been more welcoming I would have loved to sit in the courtyard with a good book and a drink. Service wasn't flawless but the staff made up for it in enthusiasm. My room was clean and quiet, excepting noise from a very windy storm we had to endure.

All that said my room felt small, with an odd layout that set aside half the space to the bathroom. And while it may not be fair to hold the Winchester to an international standard, I found the breakfast disappointing and room amenities a bit sparse, especially when compared to my stay in Johannesburg.

In short, I would definitely recommend the Winchester, but consider the Hotel Riviera down the road if you need more space and a full kitchen.

I've stayed in the Winchester Mansions on several occasions. I love the location across the road from the Sea Point Promenade with all there is to see and do at any time of the year. The hotel is in a beautiful old colonial building with a gorgeous courtyard in the middle. The hotel has recently been renovated so there are lots of contemporary features. Bedrooms are immaculate and stylish with some lovely features included. The hotel breakfast is excellent.

Room Tip: As it is an older building the rooms vary substantially so it is difficult to advise.

My husband and I spent 4 nights at the Winchester Mansions last week.
We had a lovely stay.
The hotel was in a great location. Across street from the Hop-on/Hop-off bus stop and the beach, and 45 min. or so walk to W & A waterfront.
The room was nice. A hint small - but manageable. The bed was a bit hard - but I am a bed snob. The bath was large and offered a shower and bath tub. The room also had a hair dryer.
The staff was wonderful. The front desk staff went out of their way to assist us with booking activities and transportation.
All and all I would stay here again.

We stayed here for 4 nights whilst visiting Cape Town.
The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The centre courtyard gave it a cool, secluded colonial feel. The staff were all helpful. There is shuttle bus to the V&A waterfront - a revived area of shopping and entertainment. The Red & Blue tourist bus stops outside the hotel. There is parking but it is limited!
The bar is popular with the residents of Cape Town and the food is good.
A great stay.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter

The hotel had very friendly and helpful staff who sent us to good restaurants and gave good advice on things to do. The breakfast was excellent and had something for everyone. Rooms were spacious and clean, turn down service was a delightful extra!

We enjoyed our stay here. Trip Advisor reviews were encouraging, and we were not disappointed. Arrived at 9.00 am after a long flight, and shown straight to our room - wonderful! The hotel is located on the seafront, about 30 minutes walk from the V and A Waterfront, although a free shuttle is available during the day and the Red buses stop outside.
Our room, at the rear of the property, was quite large and comfortable and we slept well.
We took dinner the first night, and the food was excellent - perhaps the best steak I have eaten. The restaurant is closed on Sundays and Mondays, although bar meals are available. The bar is popular with locals, it seems, and gets rather busy, but prices are reasonable. Breakfast was acceptable, but would have been more agreeable had the plates been hot.
Staff were friendly and attentive, and always eager to please.
Corridors were furnished with a green floor covering, golf ball, putter and a hole!
All in all, a good place to stay.
