Owner description: Groot Constantia is South Africa's oldest wine producing estate, (est: 1685). Situated 20 minutes from Cape Town central and one of the Big 6 tourist destinations, Groot Constantia is a must visit. With two fine restaurants, Jonkershuis and Simon's (contact details on website), wine tastings, chocolate and wine pairing, cellar tours and a museum that reminds one of a bygone era, this beautiful historic winery is a popular attraction.

“Cosy Quality for winter meals”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

Whether it's rainy or sunny Groot Constantia is a good bet. When the sun is out there is space and squirrels abounding. When it's rainy there is a fire, good service and food at the Jonkershuis restaurant. Well worth a visit. Booking on Sunday is recommended as it's popular.

“Fine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

Comparing with Stellenbosch, it is very small but Groot Constantia is very close to the city and the City Sightseeing buses stop there and offer a mini tour. So, why not to stop here?

We did the Vineyard Walk and was worth it. For the wine tasting you have to pay, not too much but you will not taste wine for free. In Tokara (Stellenbosch) it was free. The wine was ok.

“drizzle bizzle...”

This was a stop on the red bus line, actually it was an off shoot to the red line, on the blue line.. but that is deside the point. It was a gorgeous place despite the freezing rain... and the wine tasting after the tour was a delight. so much fun!

“Commercial Vineyard”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

Wanted to see one of the famous wine vineyards in the region, but disappointed by the over commercialisation of the wine tasting. It looked more like a fast food outlet, and we ended up leaving. Sad really. The other estates in the region are much more welcoming and generous
