We stayed at the Tudor Hotel, Greenmarket Square, Cape Town, on two occasions during our holiday. Firstly from the 25th to 27th July and secondly from the 12th to 16th August 2008. My party consisted of two adults and two children (aged 9 and 7 years).
On a positive note most staff were friendly and very helpful. The only matter they couldn’t resolve was when we had a problem with WiFi internet connection. In the end we settled for an inexpensive Internet Café on St George’s Mall. The hotel is very clean and maintained to an acceptable standard. Whilst breakfast was nothing special, staff at the Tudor Café did try to make us feel at home.
The Tudor Hotel is centrally located and is not hard to pay. This is why we chose this property. Our family room was quite large and had two separate bedroom areas and a bathroom. The children slept soundly towards the back of the property whilst the adults faced onto Greenmarket Square. Unfortunately the windows are single glazed and you hear every noise coming from the street below (front of property). At the weekends people, vehicles and bar type music can be heard until around 0300hrs. At around 0600hrs craft stallholders start to set up for the day in Greenmarket Square. Double-glazing would be a real bonus.
This is our third visit to Cape Town and we had no security concerns at all in town. The city centre has a number of Community Support type officers on patrol who provide a welcome security presence. I can recommend an Ethiopian restaurant called ‘Addis in Cape’ at 41 Church Street. It is just around the corner from the Tudor Hotel.
A previous trip adviser entry mentioned cockroaches at the Tudor Hotel. We stayed in total for six nights and saw only two cockroaches during our time in the hotel.
