“Nice Hotel, Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

Nice hotel and location in Cape Town. Visited there in late March with a group of six on a Gate 1 tour. Breakfast was good every morning. Walking distance to: banks, fast food, grocery store, liquor store, drug store, etc. The rooms very in size, but well maintained with decent views. Overall a nice visit.

Nice place to stay in. Not very far from the city attractions. This hotel is also a part of the university which used to be a prison once. People are nice and friendly but Internet is not the best at all. If you don't want to spend too much on accommodation as a family it can be ideal.

Excellent location, loads of shops and places to eat within a walking distance, close to the public transportation and my citi pass.
Good gym and nice swimming pool (the pool to relax not to swim, not big enough).
Just ask for a room far away from the lift, as it can be noisy.
Staff were very well trained and nice.
Housekeeping was a bit of slack, did not replenish toilet papers or laundry bags, however after telling them, all was nice and neat.

Room Tip: Far way from the lift

Nice hotel, clean and good standard, breakfast ok. Excellent fitness centre. Great location close to coast promenade and to Main street shops and MiCiti bus. Staff were great. I would stay here again when I visit next time.

The hotel is well situated being close to the sea front. The room was very clean but you need to be a slight contortionist to get to the toilet behind the bathroom door. Some of the staff were helpful and had a smile on their face but certainly not all did and there seemed to be a lack of general knowledge as to what amenities were in the vicinity.
One annoying point was that the key cards kept having to be reprogrammed. I was told originally that it was because it was next to my phone so subsequently made sure it was separate to anything else and yet they still kept wiping clean.
There are plenty of good restaurants within walking distance and it is not too far (10 minutes drive) to get to the V&A Waterfront.
There were no towels either when we went to use the plunge pool despite asking at reception before we went to the pool.

Room Tip: Sorry, nothing to add here

Dear Mark H,

Thank you for your valued feedback regarding your recent stay at the Protea Hotel Sea Point.

Your comment regarding the STAFF's general lack of knowledge has been well noted and training has been put in place. I can assure you that this is not the standard which Protea Hotel Sea Point prides itself in.

We are also aware of the key cards malfunctioning, and are looking at corrective measures to ensure this problem does not arise again in the future.

We hope to welcome you back again soon to show you the true Protea Hotel Sea Point hospitality.

Thank you & Kind Regards,

Katherine Lewis

This hotel is disappointing and demonstrates the hit and miss quality of Protea.

On the upside: The hotel rooms have been renovated (they are a bit less IKEA) and are quite nice. The pool area and views of the sea (from rooms facing it) are lovely. There is a wonderful Tanzanian lady working at reception. But, that is where the good stops.

On the downside: The internet speed is circa 1994, basically worthless; after I paid for an upgrade on-line, the password failed. The hotel front desk and porter area is severely under staffed. It was easier to bring goods to my room than to wait for someone to store them. Regarding security, the keys worked sporadically in opening the door to the floor; yet, the stairs at the back had to security at all!

Overall, this is a shocker from a Marriott managed hotel. They have lots of work to do. Otherwise, the acquisition of Protea will be as bad in practice as it looked at the time of the deal. Protea does not fit the portfolio. It is far from DC. It will demand lots of management time.

Dear EDS71

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback after your recent stay at Protea Hotel Sea Point. Your feedback is highly valued and will be used constructively to maintain and improve, where necessary, our standards of service and facilities.

Please accept my sincere apologies for the discomfort and inconvenience you experienced. Your feedback regarding the delayed internet connectivity and malfunction of key cards, by no means reflects the high standard of quality and service that Protea Hotel Sea Point is usually proud to offer. I confirm therefore that I have investigated your comments in a serious light and taken action to rectify the shortcomings.

Your feedback is imperative for us to ensure that our GUESTS’ expectations are being met and exceeded. Without your comments, we would never know when we are doing right, but more importantly, when we are doing wrong! Thank you for assisting us to strive for service excellence.

Your interest and concern are much appreciated, and we hope to have the privilege of welcoming you to Protea Hotels again in the near future.

Best regards,

Katherine Lewis
