Spent a very nice week here whilst on business. Nothing needs to be added regarding location. It is fantastic. Make sure you spend the extra if you can to obtain a sea or harbour view. Otherwise what's the point. Waves crashing in right outside your window, very relaxing! You get all the benefits of a seafront location without having to be in the middle of V&A waterfont itself (lovely but with a hint of disneyland).
As usual with Radissons the group website offers scant information about your room, so here goes. We booked Exec rooms, which were enormous and more like suites. The bedroom is separated from the main room by a wall, which turns out to be a sliding set of floor-to-ceiling shutters. In the morning, open your shutters and hey presto, a huge living room with sea views and the sun belting in. In the living room, good desk space and a comfy seating area with sofa/table. Big fridge, useful little sink area and Nespresso coffee machine. Sliding glass doors gave onto a very large balcony overlooking the sea, complete with loungers! The bathroom also was very large, with separate bath and shower cubicle although the styling and lighting in the bathroom were suprisingly bland/verging on dowdy.
Service was nice but not 5-star. Almost there, just needs stronger management. A number of straightforward requests to reception were not actioned. In contrast, I asked reception to remove the snacks from my room (too much temptation!), which they did, but emptied out my minibar while they were at it. I explained the error, they apologised, reception promised to re-stock the fridge, but they never did. After a week I gave up asking. Similarly, the Nespresso is great but they only give you 3 capsules, 1 of which is decaff (huh). Some days, housekeeping forgot to replenish, other days I got nothing but decaff. Sounds trivial but if you're going to put a Nespresso in then do it right. And in general, despite the vast number of staff milling around public spaces, we spent more time than we should waving our arms trying to get pot of coffee/a menu/someone to take our order etc. What I would say is that all staff were totally delightful, friendly and smiling which any traveller will tell you is rare and priceless in a hotel.
The bar was bright, lively and good fun, especially for Friday tea-time drinks when the whole of Cape Town seemed to start their weekend here. Food excellent and breakfast especially impressive.
Some other nice touches included free wi-fi (other hotel chains take note) and, in the public lobby, you could squat on a comfy chair and plug your laptop in to a cute array of concealed plug sockets including UK plugs, very thoughtful. Be aware there is no business lounge on the exec floor like you get in most hotels, though there is a small facility in the lobby. Also there is no gym; they bus you up the road to a partner gym.
Concierge and front desk were very helpful. Rustled up taxis on demand in about 30 seconds. I am not quite sure how they did it. Don't even bother trying to book an airport pick-up with them. They agreed to do this, and failed to show, 3 times for 3 different travellers. No great hardship, lots of taxis at CT airport. Reception will also sub you some rand if you're short of cash.
Incidentally don't worry about the stadium construction, it has no impact whatsoever.
Big thumbs up and I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Cape Town.
