I had been to Capetown twice prior to my stay at the Capetonian. On the earlier vists I stayed at the Southern Sun Waterfront and my experience was unparalled.

My first concern with the Capetonian was that the staff at the reception seemed not to be able to provide advice on how to tour the City and at times even misinformed guests. Luckily I was able to get around this having visited Capetown twice.

The shutlle bus as with all hotels near the waterfront was very convenient but theirs was very infrequent. Sometimes i had to get back to the hotel with a cab at my own expense. When i complained, I was asked to call the hotel and a cab will be sent which they will pay for. The next time this happened, i spent over 10 minutes trying to reach the hotel but no one picked the lines. When i got back one of the ladies at the reception was busy using the PABX to make a long personal call and cared less about my concerns.

During my stay I requested for a sewing kit which was delivered after two reminders without a needle. Several requests and complaints over two days eventually got me one with a needle though during this period I had received about 7 packs without needles.

Food at the hotel was slightly above average but not labelled, so you simply had to guess what you were eating after tasting it.

Wont recommend the hotel if you want to really enjoy CapeTown and you are a first time visitor. You may be mistaking their service for the best available in Capetown. There are better places to stay at.

“Decent 3 star hotel”

Capetonian Hotel

We stayed at the Capetonian Hotel for 5 nights in Aug 2007. We picked the hotel primarily because of its close proxmity to the V&A. The pictures we saw of the hotel also seemed very nice. We were under the impression that it was a 4 star hotel, though after staying there, I would say its a good 3 star, but not more than that. The free shuttle which goes 'on the hour, every hour' to the V&A and back was convenient, though at times it did not show up and we had to call the hotel, which would then send a cab paid for by them. The hotel is centrally located, just 5 minutes by drive from the V&A, and next door to long street, one of the happening areas for night clubs. The hotel itself was not very impressive. The rooms were clean, but the in room safe did not work, even though we complained, it never got fixed. Bathroom was clean. The halls smelt awful though, I had to hold my nose everytime I walked from the elevator to my room. The biggest disappointment was the breakfast. I travel a LOT and have never seen such a lousy spread of awful tasting food. The eggs were bad (how can you mess up an omlette???), the bread selection was terrible, none of the food was labelled so you have NO idea what you're about to eat. I lived on cereal and cheese and crackers for 5 days. The staff was friendly and helpful though, and gave us good advice about where to go and what to do. I would recommend this hotel to people who are looking for a centrally located, comfortable, 3 star hotel.

I would recommend this hotel to my best friends . We had a beautiful room over looking Signal Hill . The room was large bright and very clean . The staff treated us brilliant . The breakfast was really good . The free shuttle bus to and from the Waterfront runs every hour on the hour .

Everything we could wish for at a reasonable price .

“Lived up to my expectations”

Capetonian Hotel

Having read some uncomfortable reviews I was anxious about staying in the Capetonian. This was prebooked by the organisers of our scientific conference being held a couple of blocks down the road. I was pleasantly surprised by the friendly staff and a front desk parrot who likes to say 'hello' to every customer! The hotel rates are cheap for the service and amenities provided. The room provided was comfortable with a double bed, settee, office desk, TV, Radio alarm, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities, an ensuite bathroom/shoer with soap, shampoo and body gel/wash provided and plenty of bath towels. No mini-bar is found in the room. Wake up calls can be booked and room service provided 24 hrs of the day. This hotel has a wide variety of cuisines and dishes provided for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A spread of food was available - the inclusion of 'halaal' dishes (curried and not curried) has made this hotel rather unique to those found in the neighourhood. Although no internet services are provided in the room, an internet lounge at the entrance is useful. All members of our team seemed to have enjoyed their stay at this hotel.

“A hotel above our expectations”

Capetonian Hotel

We booked the hotel on the internet based on location and value for money. We stayed for five nights on a bed and breakfast basis and from the moment of arrival found the staff most welcoming and helpful. Our room was large and very well appointed and the housekeeping was first class. The variety of the buffet breakfast was extensive and the hot food was hot with eggs, omelettes etc. cooked to order.

Reception and Concierge staff were most helpful in advising and booking tours etc. and the free hourly shuttle bus to the Waterfront was timely and never let us down.

All in all this hotel helped to make our stay in Cape Town most memorable and from our experience we would thoroughtly recommend it.
