“Bad service”

I agree about the bad service here. We eat in the "restaurant" one evening. It took 30 minutes for them to bring our drinks. Then ages for our meal and only 4 others in the restaurant. The table was not laid (no forks )
The reception staff were unhelpful and disinterested in the clients.
The shuttle bus drivers were good.
The rooms were good but so were other hotel rooms in Durban.
The Hotel let South African down as the standard of service generally in the country is excellent.

“WARNING!!”

Capetonian Hotel

warning to all tourists: do not be fooled by statements such as 'the level of service is well above average' or 'quality service'. this hotel is stuipdly overpriced, smilling whislt they happily take well earned cash and offer nothing but shoddy service. the staff are rude, not at all helpful and in fact are an embarrassment to south african hospitality. where this hotel got it's 4stars one can only guess! and i am south african!

“Incredible value for money”

A true home away from home! The staff really know the meaning of going the extra mile. The hotel slogan is "where service is anything you want it to be" and really,... they live upto it. The rooms are very comfortable and if you require anything else the hotels housekeeping staff are all too ready to help. Facilities are great and everthing you would expect from a four star hotel is there! Food is of outstanding quality, the choice and variety on the buffet is unbelievable What is a delight is to see that the locals frequent the restaurants and are constantly singing praise about the cuisine. Also nice to see is that minorities as well as everyone else are catered for. This place really made our visit to South Africa and we have no hesitation in recommending to others that might follow.

“Capturing local flavour”

Capetonian Hotel

Mar 31, 2005

Visted Cape Town alone in March 2005. Stayed at the Capetonian which was functional. Excellent breakfasts. Free bus to Waterfront. No external garden or space in which to relax though.

Wondered about best means of seeing local places without being herded around? The local Tourist office was splendidly helpful and pointed me in the right direction. Used the services of a local guide to get to the west coast nature reserve, around Cape Point, the Winelands & Kirstenbosch. One could allow 1 day for the latter! Personalisation costs very little more than the standard trips and enabled me to stop longer where I preferred. Best to advise your guide what your interests are and he can focus the trip accordingly. Guide has interest in Cricket and dancing - so test his knowledge!

“Nowhere to sit outside”

Capetonian Hotel

Mar 13, 2005
11/11 found this review helpful

I stayed here with a tour group in November 2004. The hotel itself is not in a particularly attractive area (the business area) and once it gets dark, there is an unsafe feeling about the area.
The rooms are large and comfortable but beware, you either get a room facing Table Mountain with no balcony or a room with a balcony but no view except that of other tall buildings and the car part - this can be quite claustrophobic.
There is no outside space to sit in to relax or sit in the sun if required which again is claustrophobic.
Please see the previous reviewer in respect of food, alcohol and internet facilities.
However, the lift has to be one of the most clever lifts I have ever seen! You just button in the floor you want to go to, the lift arrives and takes you to the floor chosen - there are no buttons to press in the lift!
The free shuttle bus to the Waterfront was used frequently by some of my fellow travellers but it is only a few Rand by taxi to most places in the city.
I wouldn't stay here again because of the lack of outdoor space and the feeling of being unsafe if walking around the area.
