“Excellent stay for 3 people in the same room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2014 via mobile

My daughter, her husband and I travelled from Malawi for a weeks stay in CT on vacation. When we called ahead, very friendly agent Genevieve answered and arranged a convenient pickup from the airport. We felt R400 charge a bit too much at the time. The friendliness of the staff and all the convenient amenities made up for it. The day after we arrived Genevieve took the time to suggest many different options of things to do.
Thanks to her Persuasion, I went on the Great White shark dive and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is not as scary as it sounds anyway.
They had the third bed ready in the sitting area when we arrived and the unit was very clean and we'll kept.
Thanks again for a great stay

Dear nimjas01

Thank you for taking the time to post a review.

R400 for three persons for an airport transfer is pretty standard. Transport costs are escalating.

We're pleased you took on the challenge of shark diving and hope you had the opportunity to enjoy lots of what Cape Town has to offer.

Kind Regards

I'd give this place 3.5 stars if I was able... We stayed here as we got a good rate through hotels.com for a weeklong stay. Been a bit spoiled from our last few trips by staying in luxury hotels. This is not a luxury hotel. However, it is clean, comfortable and totally fine, especially if you're not going to be spending the whole time in your hotel room.

No fancy lobby to speak of, you have to enter through the parking garage which is always manned by friendly security guards. Reception is basic but fine, staff was very welcoming and quickly checked us in at midnight so we could get to bed. We had breakfast once (at R300, ouch!) which was nice though not really worth the cost. Our room was on a high floor so we didn't have much noise. We had a living room/lounge area, with a kitchenette and a balcony (awesome!). We also had a separate bedroom with a double bed and en suite bath. The bathroom was really small but it didn't really bother us. Housekeeping came daily after we left for the day and did a great job of making sure our room was clean and we had fresh towels. Room service is a bit surly but we only used it once so not a big deal. There is no gym at this hotel unfortunately, would be nice to add a small exercise room or have a treadmill in your room.

We rented a car for one day so was able to park it in the secure garage overnight. It's a bit tricky to get out of the parking garage as it's very tight, but there are helpful dots to follow to help you navigate around the pillars (tough even in a VW)! However, the exit portion that lets out onto the street is so steep, you really have to be careful not to rip off the bumper. They should fix that as if you weren't paying close attention, you could easily really damage your car.

The hotel is in Greenpoint, so there are a few cafes, shops and bars nearby, mostly frequented by locals (definitely recommend 65 on Main & The Butcher Man)! There are three supermarkets within walking distance which is helpful in case you want to buy water or whatever for your stay. The waterfront is about a 5 minute cab ride away (set fare is usually R40). We did walk around the neighborhood a bit (very safe) and you can also just hail a taxi off Main Road yourself.

Had an error on our bill at check out which was promptly fixed. All in all, was a safe and pretty comfortable place to lay our heads and stash our belongings.

We are in a standard double room and although the bedroom and bathroom is a bit cramped, the fact that you have a lounge area with kitchenette, it makes it very comfortable for cyclists during their stay for the Argus. The staff is very friendly and the location between start & finish is very convenient.

Room Tip: If you would like a sea view, book early and ask for an upper floor unit.

Me and my wife stayed at Protea Hotel - Cape Castle for 5 days. Well, this place is not really at a walking distance from V&A waterfront, as they seem to claim while booking. A taxi costs around 30-40 ZAR to the waterfront. The hotel is conveniently located with many supermarkets (SPAR, Pick n Pay Express etc) and restaurants (KFC) nearby. The staff were all very friendly and quick to attend to our requests with a smile. The room was decent, a kitchen, a balcony with the view of the giant wheel at the waterfront and the bed was cozy. Since the hotel is located in a busy street, the rooms are noisy.

One 'real' negative aspect I can think of: As a person staying in Europe for past few years, I found it unsafe to walk to super markets and restaurants near the hotel. The place is full of muggers, they approach you, ask for money and stuff. If you ignore them, they abuse. That happened 2-3 times during our stay, the hotel staff told us that it is not safe to walk outside after 7 pm.

Room Tip: Choose the room at a higher floor since the view from balcony is much better.

Lets start with a small gripe. They say the hotel is walking distance from the V&A Waterfront. If we went as the crow flies, then this is true, but the way you have to walk makes it a bit further, but still you can walk to the Waterfront.

On the positive side the room was very clean, neat and beds comfortable. The extractor in the bathroom makes a bit of a noise, but imagine you are in a plane on a trip somewhere and it should not be much of a problem.

Location is great and you have easy access to most highways to travel around Cape Town.

I stayed her for a business week and then a long weekend on holiday.

I Liked:

The rooms were nicely appointed, plenty of room and very clean.
Good central location.
Fairly priced.

I didn't like:

The hotel's advertising which claims this is 'literally on the doorstep' of the Waterfront. It is actually some 1,2 km away. Rooms on the lower floors do have the views claimed by the advertising. I really don't like this. It doesn't help to play with the truth. Otherwise I would have given this a better rating.
The breakfast was really poor. Cold, served with real attitude and quite unpleasant. I only tried it once.
At times the main road outside was very noisy.

Room Tip: Move as high up as possible.

I will bookmark this hotel for future business (and every personal) trips.
My room and bathroom was clean and the bed, very comfortable.
It is in a great location, the service is efficient and the staff are helpful.

Might I suggest looking into 2 things:

Bedroom:
The space between the cupboard and bed is just enough to open the cupboard doors - I'd like to recommend sliding doors if this is the situation with other rooms. I found it a bit of a challenge to put things into and take out of the cupboard.

Signage:
Changing the viewing angle the road facing signage.
It is currently running parallel to the road which makes it a bit more of a challenge to identify if a guest is traveling from the city center.
