“My most favourite hotel in the world (so far)”

Ambassador Hotel

I have stayed at the Ambassador five times in the last two years. I would recommend staying in the Suites which are based just across the road from the main hotel. The rooms on this part have a lounge with TV and DVD player, sofabed and a balcony. There is also a kitchen which you can save money on food by preparing your own. There are some excellent supermarkets that are less than 15 minutes walk away and the housekeeping service does a great job in tidying up after you. The rooms are large, comfortable and spotless (although you may have to ensure that your bed linen in changed when you want it to be). Bathrooms are generally very clean. Its not great if you intend to spend most of your time at the Waterfront and on Long Street and there isnt any entertainment close by the hotel. However, Camps Bay with its bars and clubs is about 3 km away. Also the hotel provides a periodic shuttle car to and from the Waterfront so if you can, synchronise your activities to take full advantage of this. You can walk to the Waterfront but be prepared for a very long walk or you can pay for a taxi.
Breakfasts which are served across the road in the refurbished Salt resturant are tasty and thoroughly recommended as a start to the day. Although it is difficult to get dinner reservations for SALT because its takes shameless advantage of the jaw droppingly good view of the ocean.

The staff are friendly and helpful, if you stay for more than two days they will probably remember your name. If you return for another visit, you will be greeted like an old friend and your personal preferences will likely be remembered particularly by the staff at the resturant.
As a lone female traveller, I feel perfectly safe at this hotel the views from the hotel are stunnng. Its my favourite hotel because nothing but nothing beats putting your feet up on your balcony with a glass of south african shiraz to toast the embers of a dying African day.

The hotel has an unobstructed view of the ocean and commands an enviable view of the sunset. The room itself was average with basic furnishings and dated bathroom. We had the suite across the street from the main lobby; it was a corner room with a large terrace. The service and food was excellent especially during the breakfast hour. Did not have trouble securing a table for dinner at Salt. It is approximately a 20 minutes taxi ride from city bowl.

We stayed at the Ambassador in March, and although the rooms are a bit small and there was no bath tub in our room, we found the staff to be excellent, and had an all-round good time. Victoria Road, where the hotel is located in Bantry Bay, gets busy during peak times but it is worth it for the fantastic views and proximity to the sea. Breakfast isn't the Holiday Inn style huge buffet, but was still really nice.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Ambassador and we will stay there again next time we're in Cape Town.

We stayed here for one night on our way back after a week in Hermanus, on reflection we would have been better to stay in Hermanus, which i thought was great. There is no pool at the Ambassador at the moment, on their website it does point out that they are upgrading the pool from Mar to Oct , well at the end of Nov they still have a long way to go. Had we realised the pool was not finished we would not have booked. Their shuttle sounds great, but actually is not continuous and we didnt find the times suited us. The rooms are nice, although not huge and ours did have a lovely view over the ocean. We asked for a non smoking room, but the room definitely smelled as though it had been smoked in.
We selected the hotel as being close to the airport , but actually it is on the other side of capetown so i wouldnt recommend if you have an early flight.
However , that all said the restaurant is excellent, we had a very good meal there, the staff were attentive and effcient and the salad derssing was historic. The setting is also fabulous with the restaurant being totally open to the sea so watching the sun go down was lovely

We stayed here for 5 nights, the first leg of our honeymoon and first time in South Africa. The staff are so helpful and could not do enough for us. The travel desk is excellent and will help you plan your day. The breakfast buffet was amazing and we had a lovely dinner one night in Salt restaurant, which is a busy restaurant and popular with locals. The pool was under construction at the time which was a pity but there is so much to do in Cape Town we were kept going. Our executive suite was very clean, lovely sheets and towels. The decor was quite plain but well maintained. There is a chemist and food shop/cafe directly under the executive suites which was brilliant. Plenty of parking if you have a hire car too.
