“Hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

It is rare to find so charming and peaceful a place so near to the heart of a major city. Over breakfast in the garden, it is easy to imagine oneself on a rural estate in the cape winelands, rather than tucked up the hill from Cape Town's busiest district. Phil, Liz and their coworkers are so very good-natured, knowledgeable and helpful that one quickly comes to feel at home amongst friends. How often does one hug their hosts when they leave a bed and breakfast? We're only sorry we couldn't stay longer.

Thanks so much Wyatt and Cathy, for picking up exactly the point of what we're trying to do here. Parker Cottage should feel a little like staying with a grandiose friend at their house in the country, only the major difference is that you're right in the heart of the City Bowl, Cape Town. Oh, and we hug EVERYONE who wants to be hugged at Parker Cottage! Glad you took us up on the offer :-)

Dear Phil and Liz,
Thank you so much for a wonderful stay! The beautiful surroundings, your warm welcome and the wonderful staff was amazing to experience. We loved the room, the breakfast, and the placement of your guesthouse. Anyone looking for a unique and genuine experience should stay at Parker Cottage.
Greetings to Babalwa, Thandeka and Lexi!

Very nice place situated in a residential area but with walking distance to the center. The hosts were extremely helpful in suggesting activities, restaurants etc and breakfast was really great. The "cosy" room is nice but quite small and the bed is a bit small to share.

Dear Liz, when you said Phil had a "interesting take on hospitality" I was not so sure what you were referring to. At the end of our trip I knew just what you meant and how incredible a host Phil could be. For the first five days of our honeymoon you guys were the anchor of the incredible time Karishma and I had. All your recommendations were spot on and led us to to places beyond our expectations. Phil your help with the car situation was what kept our honeymoon going and you will be glad to know that we made it fine from that point till now - we re headed to Kruger tomm but cannot forget about Parker cottage and our time there. Thanks again for everything and we hope to see you again much sooner than we expect! Love and regards - Karishma & Aamir

We had a fantastic stay a Parker cottage. We were recommended this place by friends and were greatful for the recommendation. The place is very homely, big rooms, lots of space to chill out and relax through the house. Breakfast was amazing! We stayed there for Christmas and was made to fell like it was home away from home, which was exactly why we wanted to book a Bed and Breakfast. Staff are very friendly and helpful. For early morning site seeing or departures they will even pack you a breaks to take with you, although no where near as good as the sit down breaks with four courses :)
We hired a care while we there which we felt was necessary to get around cape town and back to the hotel with out fuzz.
Overall great place to stay would highly recommend it to everyone.

We trully enjoyed our stay in Parker Cottage and though when we travelled further through Garden Route later and it's very beautiful route, I personally missed Cape a lot, mostly due to Parker Cottage "home" atmosphere... we also had a chance to stay in 5star Westin Hotel in the citi center, but it didn't feel so special there. In Parker Cottage you actually feel the real spirit of the city and its people.

what we really appreciated were good breakfast, constant willingness of hosts to help us with advise /booking and the wine evening with the other guests.

Good choice for couples and relaxed vacation.

Room Tip: we had room #9, very nice and rather big. but if you want to save some money for the trip you can ta...

Wow, Leysen! That's quite a compliment to be told that you enjoyed the stay at Parker Cottage more than at the Westin! We do try to make the experience of staying with us as far away as we can from the usual hotel or B&B feel. We don't have piped music, reception desks, curfews, or mini bars and trouser presses and every room in the house is individually styled, just like in a real house. We also don't live on site so when we leave for the day, the house belongs to our guests to do with as they please! So pleased you enjoyed the stay, particularly as it was your honeymoon.

Our stay at Parker Cottage was excellent. Wonderful hosts and excellent staff; we felt like we were at home. The personal touches set this establishment above other places that we stayed at throughout South Africa and Botswana. It also has a great location with and easy walking to all parts of downtown Cape Town.

Welcome to Parker Cottage! We’re a little different than the usual hotel or guesthouse experience. Rather than being just a conventional ‘place to sleep’, we offer a very much unplugged, urban retreat right in the creative heart of Cape Town. So although we offer free and fast internet, we don't do minibars, piped music or even reception desks. Think of us like a country house in the middle of the city. We’re the kind of place where you can rediscover the art of conversation, endless breakfasts and total serenity. Parker is a social place too: our legendary free wine evenings occur at least twice a week and there’s no ‘cut off’ time for our gourmet breakfasts either. ... more   less
