“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2014

Superb location near the V & A waterfront, very good value. Claimed four star but the bathrooms were very dated along with other parts of the hotel.
Service was superb. Breakfast included was good too. Swimming pool was freezing!!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2014 via mobile

The hotel is in a very convenient location at the waterfront, very close to it and is a very comfortable place to stay, albeit not remarkable in any way. Service is friendly, breakfast is very good, and it's very pleasant. Decor in the rooms is very bland and uninteresting, but it's perfectly fine and clean. I will return, it is fair value for money between the very expensive options at the V&A. And the lift is very noisy! It needs to be replaced, so stay away from it.

This is a quite good hotel, in safe area of Cape Town and within easy walkingdistance from all the restaurants and attaractions on the waterfront. We had som difficulties getting the right room when we arriived but on 3rd try we did get our double. Nice staff, nice brakfast, safe and good. Recommended,

The hotel needs a serious makeover , the bathrooms are old , we were on 3rd floor and the passage reeked of cigarette smoke on way to room. The positioning of hotel adjacent to waterfront is however hugely beneficial. I asked for an extra bed for child in room but was told that it is not provided

We have spent one week in this hotel. Beds are confortable (including 4 pillows); everything is very clear; rooms are made two times a day (with a chocolate gift the nigth); the breakfast is very complete and waiters always ready to help you, as the personal in the reception desk; the swiming pool is not very big; having lunch or dinner at the hotel is very nice and not expensive for the traditional food that is offered; is located 2 minutes to the Waterfront, a tourist area with a large choice of international restaurants, shops and even a supermarket to buy some pre-cooked food. I would chose this hotel again, with no doubt,

4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2014

Recently in Cape Town for work and a weekend vacation we booked four rooms at the Portswood. This property is quite handy to the waterfront and all of its restaurants, night life and shopping and has great services in house including a wonderful restaurant. I was particularly impressed by the dedicated staff and their steadfast attention to customer service. As our group included women travelling alone safety and security were essential and the Portswood met our needs with a combination of a smaller hotel with good security and service. I also had probably the very best omelette at a hotel that I have ever tasted.

Room Tip: Get a room on the second floor away from the elevator.

Stayed at the hotel for 3 nights at the beginning of March. I was very surprised at the negative reviews of other travellers. Admittedly, the hotel may show a bit of wear and tear but has a lovely ambiance. The traditional decor in navy style sits so well with the historical waterfront location. Beds in our twin room were very comfortable. Best part of our stay were the staff at breakfast, providing meticulous service, and the friendly porters who would always open the door for you on your return with words 'Welcome home'. The travel desk ladies were a bit unenthusiastic but I could not fault the hotel in any other way. It may be a bit pricey for South Africa standards but the price reflects its V&A Waterfront location. I would happily stay at the Portswood again.
