“a great boutique hotel”

I stayed at the Cape Milner on business in May 2007. It is a lovely boutique hotel - the public areas are very stylish, the rooms quite simple and not total luxury - but comfortable and clean.

The staff at the hotel are really attentive, and knew my name when I was checking in which is really nice. They were also really good about letting me pick things of the main restaurant menu and have it served in my room - even though it wasnt on the room service menu - when you are travelling on your own, you dont always want to eat in the restaurant.

The location of this hotel, next to the bars and restaurants on kloof Street is really good - although you will have to taxi ride it to the beaches of Camps Bay and to the tourist areas of the Waterfront. But like most boutique hotels it was been put in the 'cooler' area.

The hotel had a nice pool but it didnt really seem to be the sort of sunbathing hotel, but the option is there.

All in all, a really nice hotel and great value for money.

“Why isnt the restraunt busier?”

We had five nights here. Its an excellent base for daytrips around Capetown and the west capewith secure car parking and excellent views from the pool area. The rooms are quiet despite being on the main road to Kloof Nek.

The restraunt is superb and probably the best food that we had during our tour, also good value also so could not understand why it was not busier.

Staff consistently helpful and rooms spotless, a bit minimalist in the current fashion, very stylish.

“Not what we expected!”

My husband and I stayed at the Cape Milner for three nights at the beginning of February. It was very disappointing for a few reasons:

We were travelling with friends and despite having booked two rooms via the hotel website they had only organised 1. I had to provide a copy of my reservation details to get it sorted.

Our friends were placed in a second floor room (avoid those numbered 210 to 215) which is on the same level as the pool and bar - and people were partying until 5.00am. To be fair they asked for, and got moved - but no apologies from hotel - even stated that in moving them to the front of the hotel they would get traffic noise so may be no quieter - luckily it was.

We were told when we arrived that they had complimentary shuttle around Cape Town., however when we tried to book on Saturday morning we were told he was on holiday. .. and did not return until monday.

My husband had to use the internet a couple of times - the second time he got asked for money (only 25 rands) when it is maketed as being "free".

We asked them to organise a taxi back to the airport after discussing with the receptionist how long it would take in the rush hour to get us there at 5.30pm. They suggested a 4.45pm pick up which we agreed to - and then proceeded to call us at 4.45am to tell us our taxi had arrived!

Finally - on checking out we asked for our incidental costs to be pulled together and split across two rooms. At this point they could not divide by two and we were overcharged - luckily my husband noticed this and we got a refund sorted.

The rooms are fine (not great)and nowhere near nice enough to have to put up with such poor service.

I'd avoid!

After reading the report on the Cape Milner my wife and i were a little hesitant about our booking at the Cape Milner. The hotel was originaly recommended by a friend of ours who had nothing but good things to say about the hotel. As it was just a weekend break away from Jo-burg we thought we would still give it a try.
The hotel had just finished a refurbishment we were informed on our arrival, and it is every inch the modern hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful while Papa G the hotels driver is a diamond. Taking my wife and i all over the mother city.
The restaurant is modern and relaxed and the food just the way i like it, tasty and lots of it. The pool is a little small compared to other hotels we have stayed in but it looks and feels great on those hot Cape days. The buisness centre in reception is great with free internet and lemonade. Our room had moutian views, you could even see the cable cars. It was a fantastic few days in the Cape and we will be going back.

“You have to know what you get”

Cape Milner

We visited this hotel as part of our holiday in South Africa. The hotel had been marketed to us as a top sleek designer hotel, and that was what we expected, which left us very disappointed. There's nothing really wrong with this hotel, but it is not in any way what it wants you to believe it to be. This is a typical three-star hotel with a modern touch. Some rooms are just terrible, they are located around the parking space and some of them are actually under street-level, they feel really cheap and has little security, so try to avoid them by all means. The other rooms are nice and some of them even have views of Table mountain. Breakfast on the terrace is nice. The pool is small. Service is average. We changed hotel after a couple of days, but I am not telling you to avoid this place, just to know what to expect. If you avoid some of the rooms this is a trendy three-star hotel, not less and not more.
