“Terribly dissapointed and will not be returning to South Africa”

Le Vendome Hotel

We came to Cape Town with the impression that we would be staying at a hotel with a similiar style to Parisian hotels. We were terribly dissapointed. What the staff were wearing were dirty and the place is in desperate need of a renovation. We usually use 'The Small Leading Hotels of the World' as a guideline and we were heavily upset and dissapointed. We only chose this hotel as a replacement as our first 5 choices were fully booked. I advise you to book at least 6 months in advance to get into a nice hotel. The food is nouveau and horrible in taste. The breakfast is not worth going to as the food is tasteless and rubbery. I would definately not advise going to this hotel and if you have booked.... CANCEL. In my opinion you would be better staying at a hotel in the V and A waterfront as Le Vendome is in the middle of no-where. This is not a 5 star hotel but at the maximum a 3 star deluxe. This hotel has ruined my trip and I will most definately not be returning!

I have just returned from a 4 night stay at Hotel Le Vendome in Cape Town - We were booked in a Luxury King Classic room which was not only spacious and immaculate but extremely well appointed. From what I could gather, the hotel has recently been refurbished as everything was in a fine condition. Our room was equipped with all the extras including a wall safe, minibar, tea & coffee making facilities and loads of packing space. The actual decor is reminiscent of a typical luxury French hotel. We found the property to be very well positioned in Sea Point and within an easy driving distance to Camps Bay and Clifton or the V&A Waterfront. Breakfasts afford a great selection - both hot and cold- buffet and served. Although their chocolate croissants and cappuccinos were enough to get me out of bed each morning !! One thing that really made an impression on us was the courtesy, kindness and hospitality rendered by the hotel staff. Nothing was ever too much trouble and they all went out of their way to make our stay, indeed, most memorable. I can highly recommend this property and shall certainly return on our next visit to Cape Town.

After a journey from Auckland via Sydney and Jo'burg non-stop, anywhere to lie down would have been a result!

But... the Vendome, although not in the most promising location at first sight, was a pleasant surprise.

Service and quality overall were well above average and although it is not a seaside holiday hotel suitable for families who want to hit the beach or the pool, it is a good upmarket place for couples on holiday or business travellers.

Cape Town is still not the safest place in the world and it is probably advisable to use the hotel's taxis rather than the 'rent-a wreck' crew, but we did both ...and used the seafront buses and even a minibus once...with a closure system for the sliding door that involved the co-driver and a length of string! We also walked along the seafront a couple of times without incident. (We are alive to tell the tale, but friends who have known Cape Town well, over many years thought we were due for a psychiatric examination...so it's probably best to take their advice!)

Breakfasts were good at the Hotel, but otherwise we ate out at various places in the Waterfront and on a recommendation tried Panama Jack's. That has excellent fish and is an interesting place being well of the main tourist route, hidden in the commercial docks in a very unpromising area...but worth the trip. (definitely take the hotel's taxi there ....and book it back).

Overall we liked it a lot and after a trip to Hermanus , re-booked the Vendome for another 3 days on the way back.

“Nice hotel shame about.....”

Le Vendome Hotel

A nice hotel well kept and clean.I had one of the best Christmas lunches here with complimentary champagne and yorkshire puddings as good as Aunt Bessies.Breakfast and dinner excellent standard ,however a poor selection of wine if you want to buy it by the glass, and service here impeccable.
A good pool that is clean and kept that way and again good poolside service.

Be sure to lock everything in your safe and check your telephone bill.I never use hotel phones but when I got my bill ,someone else had been.
Free transport to Waterfront is shambolic to say the least, easier to get a cab.

I would like to have added pictures but my camera got stolen at the airport.

“Excellent Hotel”

Le Vendome Hotel

As the other reviewer said, this is clearly not the same hotel that 'Disgruntled of Glasgow' stayed in. Le Vendome is beautiful; the rooms are great, well sized, the staff are exceptional and the food fine. This is NOT a boring, standard chain hotel - it is a chic boutique hotel that fully deserves its five stars.
The staff are absolutely fantastic, and, it must be said, very attractive (take a bow, Mishke!).I have rarely been looked after so well, and it will be my pleasure to stay at this lovely piece of Paris in Cape Town every time I'm here. Thanks to one and all.
