“Fantastic hotel.”

We used this hotel during our honeymoon in SA. We got upgraded to a suite. The hotel and staff were fantastic and could not be faulted for anything. The courtesy bus to the waterfront was also very useful. The travel desk staff at the hotel were also fantastic and helped pick what trips to do. Breakfast was very good.

Overall the hotel and staff were wonderful and I would definitly stay there again should I decide to return to Cape Town.

“Really great experience”

Mount Nelson Hotel

My husband and I stayed here in August and had a wonderful time. Byron the concierge and Ian the chef of The Cape Colony restaurant were highlights. Byron took care of everything for us and did it in a way that felt like he was doing it as a friend, not an employee of a hotel. We were there for one of The Cape Colony's Wine and Dine events and had the most fabulous time! Ian's food was amazing and he was so nice. We got to meet him and even tour his kitchen with him. It was really lovely and we can't wait for another reason to go back to Cape Town.

I was a long-time visitor to the Nellie when I lived in Cape Town. Grand and unpretentious at the same time, a real treat. Their restaurants are among the best, if not the best, in Cape Town. Their high tea is outstanding, rivaled in my experience only at the Del Coronado in San Diego. I've only stayed there overnight once, but it was a wonderful treat; our room was at the back of the property and overlooked Table Mountain, and was positively palatial. The hotel is just over the road (Orange street) from the Cape Town Gardens, a bucolic retreat with ancient oak trees and exotic plants that was a vegetable garden for Dutch East India company ships back in the 1650s. A theater (the Little Theater) and a cinema (the Labia, named after an Italian family of that name) are very close by. That said, like everywhere in South Africa now, keep your eyes open and your senses sharp when walking around. Cape Town is not as dangerous as Johannesburg but it's by no means safe. You'll be insulated from this reality at the Mount Nelson, but keep it in mind.

“A lovely classic”

My husband and I stayed at the Nellie and loved it. It's the best hotel in Cape Town with top notch service, beautifully appointed rooms, and an excellent afternoon tea.

The Nellie is located a quick cab ride away from away from the waterfront and is walking distance to the top of Long Street. The waterfront can be really crowded so we liked being away from it all. Our room was very large with a great bathroom stocked with Molton Brown products. We had a view of Table Mountain. The staff can't do enough for you - from arranging day trips to driving us to dinner no request was too big or small and they were eager to make our stay as good as possible. The concierge was also helpful in recommending restaurants and special sightseeing spots. The dining room is formal but very good, the bar is fun and worth visiting, and the afternoon tea should not be missed.

We cannot wait to return!
