“5 Star Hotel - worthy of Leading Hotels title - excellent location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

My husband and I started our African adventure at the Cape Grace Hotel. We were there for 6 nights and did not want to leave. There are 2 other hotels in Cape Town that are also highly rated, but we couldn't imagine staying any where else. We were upgraded (Platinum AMX and 25th anniversary) to a 4th floor view of Table Mountain. Every day we woke up and had spectacular breakfast on the terrace with a glorious view of the mountain. There was only one day that there was a "tablecloth." The staff is helpful, quiet, respectful. The ambience elegant, but not flashy-an old world/old money vibe-which suits our personalities. The concierge and front staff were always at the ready to meet any request. Thru the concierge, we used UniCab for a driving tour of city-excellent overview. We also used the hotel car service for drives to Kirstenbosch and surrounding areas. The location of the hotel is perfect for Robben Island, V&A waterfront shopping - don't miss the Red Shed. We enjoyed a light lunch in the library one day and did have complimentary port/sherry in the library a couple of evenings prior to retiring for bed. I used the spa for a pedicure. The facility is very nice - small. We had no time to use the fitness center - on the go non-stop - but it is open 24 hours. Also no time to use the main restaurant or pool, but have high hopes for our return visit to Cape Town.

I had read good reviews of this hotel and we weren't disappointed, from the moment we were collected from the airport in one of CG's BMW 7 Series, it was great way to start a 6 night stay.

You are always greeted with 'Welcome home' when you enter CG and the staff are ultra friendly and professional, from Julie (reception) Stretton & Boon (Concierge) Q (restaurant manager) and all the chauffeurs Lawrence, Ricky. Everyone remembers your name.

I could not fault this hotel, location is perfect, decor, rooms are great, food, breakfast are wonderful.

We will return.

Cape Grace was our first hotel in a two week trip. We had a fantastic stay. Location excellent, food excellent, staff excellent. We were looked after extremely well by a courteous and very helpful staff. A great start to our holiday.

Room Tip: Pick one of the rooms overlooking Table Mountain.

My wife and I thought this well deserving of a 5 star rating.

From the moment we arrived, after a long flight from London, we were impressed with the attention to detail. The general ambience was relaxed quality, from the stylish decor to the personal service throughout the hotel. When the staff remember your name and say "Good Morning", it feels like home.

The restaurant was top class, and the breakfasts to die for.

The location is great to relax in, with an abundance of shops and restaurants to suit all wallett sizes. The city sight-seeing bus also leaves from the waterfront, and will drop off/ collect you from any munber of places, including Table Mountain and the beaches at Camp Bay and elsewhere.

Room Tip: Rooms with a mountain view/ marina view are quieter

We travel internationally several times a month, and it gets old, fast. But every once in awhile, we stumble across a hotel that makes you feel like home (if your home happened to be on the harbor in Cape Town with incredible service and comfort :-)).

We drove up to the Cape Grace, not really knowing what to expect. It's a member of Luxury Hotels of the World (which says a lot for it), but goes much further. The check-in desk is literally a desk (or two) where helpful staff invite you to join them in one of the chairs and fill out the guestbook. They mark the introduction of their guests to what Cape Grace is - a very special place that pampers their guests and truly thinks of them as family.

Within an hour, everyone knows your name. They greet you by name and welcome you "home" when you return from touring. And, it does feel like you're home.

The rooms have either a waterfront (commercial boat harbor) or a view of Table Mountain. Ours (412) had the Table Mountain view, along with Signal Mountain, the marina and a cafe table with two chairs to relax and enjoy the soft air and majesty of Cape Grace and Cape Town.

But more than anything, this review is about people. They form the brick and mortar of this wonderful hotel, from Faith (my favorite concierge), to Jacques (insisting on making a reservation in wine country for a restaurant with the best view in the winelands), to Daniel (the restaurant manager that helped us recover from the 32 hr trip from NY, and reminded us why we came) to Lutecia. (More about her in a minute.)

Almost everyone we encountered at the Cape Grace took great pride in their work, the hotel and Cape Town itself. When they asked you how you enjoyed your day, they really mean it. They beam when you tell them how wonderful Cape Town is, and are genuinely friendly and caring.

But Lutecia is in a class of her own. She works in the library area, where cream tea is served and evening complimentary port and sherry. We first met her when we arrived before our room was ready, and had been ushered into the library for tea and coffee. Having come from the NY blizzard, we welcomed the sunny library porch with sliding windows that allowed you to control how much fresh air you wanted. We chose the table in the corner before the french door leading to the dining room and outdoor pool. We looked and felt exhausted. I needed a tea badly.

Instead, we got hot tea and a kind smile, welcome tone and an adopted aunt all at once. She offered us not only tea and coffee, but breakfast. (Breakfasts at the Cape Grace are worth the stay!) My husband couldn't decide if he wanted sausage with his eggs, or kippers, or back bacon or steak. Lutecia solved that dilemma and brought him some of each. :-)

She set the tone for the stay. When I complimented her to the manager, they said she is the heart of the Cape Grace. We agree.

The following morning, after being wide awake since 2am waiting for the 6:30am breakfast service to begin...(still on NY time), I was devastated to find our table marked "reserved" when we walked into the library. Lutecia was standing there, grinning. I was heart-broken (having claimed that place as ours), and asked her if it was really "reserved." Her smile broadened. "Of course," she said. "It's reserved for you!"

that says it all.

Lutecia is tiny enough to fit in our carry-on, so we are not sure if she will be here when you arrive. But if she is, tell her we send our love. Luckily for you, she has enough love to go-around. Let us know what table you claim. :-)

Room Tip: If you can manage an upgrade or afford a deluxe room, try for one on the fourth floor mountainside...

The location of the hotel is just perfect to get anywhere in the area : 5 minutes walking to get to the boat for Robben Island, 5 minutes walking to get to the waterfront shops ad restaurants, 10 minutes drive to table mountain, and so forth ! The rooms are beautiful too, an dI especially recommend the Table mountain view, which also means Marina view and sun until late in the afternoon !
The longe area where you can have a tea or a quick meal is cosy and food perfect too . Do not leave without tasting the pecan tart ! But the main thing is the staff : always willing to help, perfect to make any reservation and booking for you, or bring to your room the doc you sent them to print.
The only thing that could be improved, because there always is one, is the lining up waiting for tables to be set at breakfast time ;)

Room Tip: table mountain view, upper floor : sunny, beautiful view

We had booked an Hotel a little far away from the Center of Cape Town and decided to spend the a few days in Cape Grace due to a Conference we had to attend. What can we say/ It's phenomenal how polite, hospitable and attentive, the staff is. Especial the Front desk if we can call that. There are two lovely wooden tables on each side of the lobby main entrance, with sofa behind to relax while the booking is attended to. The rooms was looking the harbor, with expensive looking private yachts, and Table Mountain uninterrupted full gorgeous view. The room was of top notch comfort with large double bed and high standards bedding and amenities. All the attention to our comfort were given at once, we never had to wait for anything we requested at any hours of the day and even late at night.asked. Breakfast was served on the balcony and the weather was lovely but a little chilly. We visited Table Mountain and a black limo we had booked from the hotel, was ready awaiting for us to leave. When we got back after a morning on top of Table Mountain, we visited the Grill Restaurant, I am not sure if it was called ''Bistro' or ''The Grill'' but it was located to the right from the entrance of the hotel and is rather large. We could either have our lunch inside the restaurant, or reserve a lovely table along the Terrace located adjacent to the reading room. our staff were mostly from Zimbabwe and Kenya, or was it Congo? The cuisine, service, and presentation was absolutely outstanding, and not really out of pocket in prices, to our surprise. To compare to lots 5 stars category Hotel we stayed in Europe and the world, it was rather reasonable. Some of the restaurant we visited at the Water Front, were far more expensive, and they were not even five stars hotel properties. We had a fantastic 250 grams steak from less that US$ 18! After lunch we went to shop at the water front, it's just walking distance from the hotel, There was a ship being repaired along the wooden parcel ramp, and we pass many restaurants, tourists souvenir shops, and felt very safe as security is all over the place. when we got back to the hotel, we relax at the bar in the basement. The bar is very rustic and attended by extremely friendly staff. some were from Zimbabwe and we talk about Victoria Fall and Mugabe. Anyway, it doesn't' matter what you do. Cape Grace Hotel can deliver your most unpredictable wishes, even on a whim get what you want, no attitude, no excuses, they are all there and the staff makes the Hotel even greater. I will return and anyone who needs to be in Cape Town and wants to be pampered, should stay there, you will not regret it, maybe your credit card will. have fun!

Room Tip: Ask a room over looking the Table Mountain and Yacht Club, harbor view. make sure you have a room aw...
