“Certainly an experience but a tad cheesey for us”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

Inspired by the cracking reviews here and the proximity to our hotel we decided to go last minute on a show night. It turns out that a party of 30 had just cancelled at the last minute so there was plenty of space.

The entertainment was pretty harmless fun if a little high on the cheesey scale. It is a strange format for an evening but it does, for the most part, work. Being forced to get up and dance before pudding will remain a low point (probably for everyone watching me too).

The food is good and served as buffet during the interval. Plenty to go round but don't expect a Michelin star.

The service was good. Before booze the bill was 1000 rand including tip for two so not the cheapest buffet ever. We had nothing better to do and left happy enough. The owner, Richard, was moping around throughout the evening and looked pretty miserable the whole time which was a slight dampener in that the show he produced is upbeat.

We probably wouldn't go back but worth a try if in the area.

“what a perfect night out in Cape Town!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013

We had a fantastic night out at Richards. We have been coming to Cape Town every year for nearly 10 years and we have tried out many restaurants and clubs over the years. We absolutely loved Richard's. The entertainment was truly amazing, the food delicious and the service perfect. We will recommend Richards to all our friends and family and we will return year after year. What a perfect night we had...

“As good as it gets”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

I hate cabarets & I hate buffets. So when our friends booked a table at Richard's Supper, I looked for every excuse to get out of the dinner. We arrived to a stage with a bassist and a pianist. The pianist was amazing - I have never heard "All my loving" sound so beautiful. Then the show began and from Cape Coloured humour and music to opera to Queen and Aretha Franklin, it just got better and better. Even the buffet was great -Cape Malay. The only minor quibble was a disappointing wine list but bring your own & problem solved. I can't believe more tour guides don't bring tourists to Richard's supper - you get Cape cuisine and culture plus some really talented artists. From the security guard singing opera to the Maitre D sounding like Freddy Mercury, this show hums. It is a great way to spend an evening - I will be going back

“Entertainment OK but nothing to write home about”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

Let down a little by the food I think. We were told we were in for an absolute feast but found the portion size rather small and not over generous, at least by our European standards. The floor show, a narration of the recent history of South Africa interspersed with song was lifted by the great voices of one or two of the performers. Otherwise readily forgettable.
