“Galbi's - Korean Braii - Cape Town Barbecue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

-What a great experience for a group of friends...sitting around a table, cooking over a small barbecue, in the middle of the table....sharing good wine....sharing some stories, some actually true...and spending time together...wow, just like the 70's,right..??!!! Sorry, wrong country...

-We had an incredible time at Galbi's, made better by the tall lanky Afrikaner owner, Coenraad, (probably messed up his name, sorry) who explained the concept of the restaurant, how it started, and how the menu works. This was an awesome lead in to our meal, and it worked, we were set at ease from the moment we sat down.

-We decided to get a variety of things we could all share and sample, from Coenraad's suggestions, based on what we were used to, and what he had to offer, ...here is the list as far as I can remember....their menu is online:

-Mushroom shots, ostrich, warthog fillet, zebra loin, vegetable skewer, kudu loin, galbi beef sirloin..etc...etc...

-All the food was incredible!! Probably because someone else helped cook, so I did not burn everything, while telling stories and waving my arms around...!!!

-This says quite a bit for the food, since you may remember, my wife is a Michigan cheeseburger girl...so for her to sample warthog and kudo, that really makes a statement....and ironically, what was our favorite..?? the Ostrich...yep...we had a slice of Big Bird, and it was incredible...please don't tell our grand-daughter...

-This was a way, way up two Yooper thumbs up restaurant....maybe the food...maybe the atmosphere...maybe the friends together....but we think....it was that magical combination when all these things come together at one time, in one place...

-Thanx Coenraad.....this was our type of place, charming, relaxing, and entertaining...the next type you are near Riverland, stop by, we will have a couple cold ones waiting for you in the river, and some venison on the campfire, you betcha one time der hey...

-Mahalo

“Unique experience!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

The restaurant is tucked away in a little mall that runs between Long street and Bloem road, in the heart of the mother city's nightlife hotspot. The whole roof is decked out with round chinese lanterns and the most interesting bronze piping - which turned out to be the extractor fans which move right down to almost cover the cooking area. The table has a hole in the middle into which they pop a container which has super hot fiery coles in it, and a grill goes over that. Your meat (fantastic selection of game and beef/ pork) is delivered raw to your table and the next thing you're sitting in the restarant with your own braai! Very unique, interesting experience. you get some seasoning, and a sesame oil to add flavour while you go at it. For 2 girls dining together it took a couple of tries before we got it cooked properly, but still good. and all the sides were delish as well! fresh veggies to crunch on! Only down side is that it gets VERY HOT at the table.. will go again in winter, with the bf, so he can do the braaing :) oh and the tables have buzzers on them so if you need anything you just buzz :)

“Grab your friends and go to Galbi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2013

I'm South African and my wife is Korean so of course before even going to Galbi we figured we'd love this place... and sure enough, we did! Being able to braai or BBQ your own meats/veges at your own table is a great experience in itself and in our opinion, is best shared with your mates. The menu's got a great blend of South African/Korean flavours yet has familiar tastes for those who are new to the cuisines, it's very reasonably priced, the staff are super nice, the vibe is cool and did we mention the food is ridiculously good? So if you and your friends are up for something different with the guarantee of it being a delicious and fun experience, get to Galbi.
