“Wonderful experience...beautiful mountain”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013

I was in Cape Town for one week doing several things, and this was by far the best experience I had. What wonderful hike up Table Mountain!

Riaan, extremely helpful, funny and friendly, took me and 5 others up the Blind Gully route. Somewhat challenging for a first-time hiker like me, but a beautiful and exciting hike. With Riaan's help I managed to go all the way up Blinkwater Needle and enjoy breathtaking views of the ocean.

Throughout the 6-hour hike I felt very secure with a knowledgeable guide like Riaan, who teaches with enthusiasm. In addition, he keeps the hikes entertaining with interesting stories.

This is by far the best way to enjoy Table Mountain, and in my view all of Cape Town. Highly recommended!

“Do not miss when in Cape Town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013

Of many fabulous experiences during our trip, the trek up India Venster was one of the best. Riaan immediately puts you at ease and keeps you interested during the entire length of the hike. You learn so much about the flora, history and other nuances when trekking with Riaan and it only adds to the experience. I cannot think of a better way to spend 3-4 hours if you are in Cape Town.

“Table Mountain via Blind Gully & a sunrise hike of Lions Head”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

We do a fair bit of hillwalking at home in Scotland, so wanted to do a decent hike of Table mountain on a route off the beaten track, so we booked to go with Riaan. He suggested Blind Gully as an unusual and challenging route and it was a really great day. Early start so we could do the majority of the climb in the morning shade. We ended up in a group of 6 as the weather forecast for our planned day wasn't good, so Riaan worked hard to rearrange us to get the best weather day. It was totally cloud free and though it was pretty windy, the blind gully route was fairly sheltered. Its apparently a route he only does 3 or 4 times a year & it was great to be so far away from the tourist hoards on the more popular routes. We only crossed paths with 1 other group (doing a different route) during the entire climb so it really felt a long way away from a big city. The route itself involved quite a bit of scrambling but Riaan was very helpful and reassuring with anyone feeling a bit anxious. The route is pretty overgrown so progress was steady but Riaan also gave lots of interesting facts about the geology and the plants en route. The whole climb took us about 6 hours including a meal break 2/3 of the way up. It was an awesome day and after such a quiet route it was somewhat surreal to arrive at the top and be surrounded by the masses in their high heels :-). I guess everyone loves Table Mountain on a clear day! Highly recommend Riaan as a guide and if you fancy a bit of a challenge and can spare an extra couple of hours I'd definitely ask him to take you on a less popular route. Its a route we could never have done without his expertise, so well worth it.
We also arranged a lions head hike via Riaan and went with his other guide Hendre. We wanted to be up there for sunrise so set off with her at 4.30am and did the whole climb just by moonlight. Again this isn't a route we could have done ourselves (daylight yes but in the dark no). Scrambling up using the chains in the dark was certainly an experience and we were the first people of the day to summit. We spent about half an hour at the top just ourselves, watched a spectacular sunrise over table mountain then descended just as the morning 'runners' were reaching the summit. We were back at the hotel for breakfast by 7.30am.
Both days were a great experience and I'd highly recommend both Riaan and Hendre. If you just want a daytime walk up the standard routes you might be fine doing these yourself, but if you fancy getting off the beaten track and having the reassurance of their expertise so that you can push yourself to do more challenging and exciting routes, then I highly recommend this company. Thanks guys, both hikes were lots of fun & gave us plenty memories!

“Thrilling experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2013

Hiking up Table Mountain via the India Venster trail with Riaan was a thrilling, incredible experience. We had never done anything like this before -- novice hikers and certainly have never "scrambled" (rock climbing). But, Riaan helped us feel safe and confident along the trail, while imparting his vast knowledge of the mountain throughout the hike. I would recommend him as a guide - and specifically the India Venster trail - to anyone who is up for a bit of adventure!

“Hike Table Mountain with Riaan Vorster: a must!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

Climbing up Table Mountain with Riaan Vorster was one of my highlights of my holidays in Cape Town. I would always recommend doing this tour with a mountain guide as it is much saver. Especially with Riaan you feel relaxed, you enjoy the climbing and the experience of being in nature. Not only he knows every step of the mountain and guides you savely up adapting to your pace, he alsoe enriches your trip with showing you different plants or animals on the way. You can feel that he likes beeing out there in the mountains which makes you enjoy it more!
I would always hike with Riaan again - thanks :)
