The Canal Walk may be quite a bit further to reach than the Waterfront but there is a greater diversity of shops, cafes and restaurants in very pleasant surroundings.
It is easier to walk around and somehow the design has allowed for less crowding, even though the day we were at the Canal it was teeming with people.
Looking at photographs of the marshes and wasteland that were there previously, the end result is quite outstanding and the canals and buildings look quite natural in their surroundings.
I am told many business have move from the city to offices either within the Canal complex or very close by, and one can see why very quickly.
When visiting Cape Town, make a point of coming to the Canal Walk as well as visiting the popular Waterfront. Unlike the Waterfront, parking is ample, even at the busiest times.
