“Top Notch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2014

A welcome long weekend break at this excellent 5 star hotel. The location for all the sights is very good and the taxis are cheap and reliable if you don't care for the walks. That said, night walks are not recommended in the immediate area. We had booked for a luxury king with city view and balcony, and were upgraded. We queried this as when we got to the room, we were on the 4th floor, could only see the building opposite and there was no balcony. We were informed by the front desk that yes we had been upgraded to a much bigger room. Although we were happy with the room we were still a little disappointed about no balcony or view. The staff were always friendly and helpful except for checkout. First of all the concierge was not able to do the check in at the airport for us as the computer was not letting her. (She told us). The Internet access was very slow in the hotel and I noticed that she had a great deal of other pages open at the same time which may have been one of the problems. After phoning the airline (Kalula) she found out that we had been checked in and after many tries, she printed some sort of boarding passes which I knew weren't correct. On getting to check in, we had to get proper ones printed again. The checkout lady at the front desk was very abrupt as if she was robotic, however, the rest of the staff as I said were excellent and made up for the other two. One strange problem with the room was that the electric lead to the kettle was plugged in through the back of the table and drawers and into the top drawer. This was fixed and could not be removed. This meant that the drawer had to be left open and the kettle brewed in the drawer!! I may be wrong, but I don't think that clients would want to steal the electric lead to the kettle! As I said, the Internet access was very slow but useable. With all that, it was still an excellent place to stay and enjoy the sights of Cape Town.

Room Tip: Ask for one with definite city or table mountain view in the tower rooms. If you want a bigger room...

Living in India, we have stayed in a number of high-quality Taj hotels. Service and facilities are always excellent. We were therefore pleased that we could book a Taj-hotel on our recent trip to South-Africa as well. The hotel in Cape Town and its staff met our high expectations. We stayed in a Taj Club room at the second floor, with a beautiful view on the St. George's cathedral and with a small part of the Table Mountain behind it. The hotel is next to pedestrian stopping area that is nice during the day time.
Our room itself was spacious, luxurious and very quiet. We enjoyed the excellent extra service and personal attention at this floor. A Taj Club lounge, the gym and an in-door swimming pool are at the same floor.
Suggestions by the staff on Cape Town tourist trips were very usefull to us. Breakfast and dining in the hotel was good, with a nice choice of wines, and again with very attentive and friendly staff.

We stayed two nights, after the first night we were impressed and booked for a second night a day later after traveling around the wine region.
The first night's view was good but the second night we asked for a view of Table Mounted and were not disappointed. Spectacular.
The hotel is located in the older part of town so museums and botanical garden, are all within short walking distance.
The Bombay Brasserie restaurant has some of the best Indian food we have eaten outside of India, very very good.
All staff are well trained and very professional.
Mint restaurant for breakfast has something for everybody and is included in the room price. Very good indeed in all respects.

Room Tip: Ask for a Table Mountain view and pay the premium if there is one.

Very nice emplacement within a previous bank building in the city bowl near Long street! We had a corner room in high floor with an amazing view on Table mountain and overlooking the entire city. Breakfast at the restaurant was delicious. A true 5* star hotel.

Hi, we stayed here for 3 Nights and 4 days in Jan 2014. Let me tell you the room (Deluxe) and the view was just awesome!. Food was also nice. They have restaurant named Bombay brassiere which serves excellent Indian food. Overall, we had a nice experience and would love to stay here again whenever we visit Capetown in near future.

Room Tip: Check for the view and take rooms on top floor (i.e 15th etc)

The Taj is well located in the centre of the old city. The staff could not have been more friendly: reception, concierge, room service, and especially the breakfast staff at the Mint each morning! Our room was very comfortable. We have never had a better appointed bathroom (loved the night light under the sink). Daniel in the wine store was very helpful in selecting a bottle of wine for the room. The Bombay Brasserie served an exquisite meal and is well worth a visit if you are looking for fine dining.
We highly recommend the Taj.

Thanks to the Taj we had a wonderful week in Cape Town. No detail left undone in the room or services .We felt pampered and recognized, homey and private and always safe. Thanks especially to Faith who made coming to breakfast feel like a special event as she catered to our every need....so very thoughtful ,poised and friendly.
Gavins who made walking through the door feel like coming home.
Many others all of whom added that special touch which made us feel so welcome. They don't go unnoticed.
Thanks everyone......we will come again!
