“Amazing view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

We stayed here on our last night as a treat in November, and what a treat! We were upgraded to a suite with a massive bathroom and our friends had a stunning view of table mountain. Breakfast wasn't included in our room rate but a very nice lady at reception waived the bill and made the stay that much more special. The breakfast was nicer at other hotels we stayed at but still very nice with the usual spread you'd expect at a five star hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of table mountain

We stayed here for 3 nights in the middle of our tour of South Africa. We'd just come in from a surfing expedition and needed a little TLC...that's just what we got! We were picked up from the airport by a very friendly driver, dropped off at the front desk. We got checked in and shown to our room and our luggage had beat us there. We set up some of the best massages of our lives in their spa and then settled into our huge bathtub and watched a movie...from the bathtub! The bed was huge and extremely comfortable. Granted we had just slept in a hostel for 3 days so almost anything would have been a change of pace, but the Taj was truly the polar opposite. Breakfast the next morning was just what you'd expect from a continental breakfast at a hotel. Nothing amazing, but it was included in our room price and perfectly acceptable. We didn't get a chance to eat at their restaurant for other meals, but some of our friends have raved about it. The concierge was super helpful in getting us quick and reliable taxi services and got us excellent reservations for dinner each night. The location made it easy to access all major Cape Town attractions and we had a wonderful time!

I recently returned from spending nine nights at the Taj Cape Town. It was truly one of the best hotel experiences I've ever had. The customer service at the front desk when we arrived was fantastic and they did their best to accommodate our request for a view of Table Mountain. The rooms are very nicely appointed with lots of natural light and a gorgeous view of Table Mountain if you're on a high enough floor (we were on the 10th). The bathroom has a fantastic glass enclosed shower with a big rain-shower style shower head, a handheld shower and a deep soaker tub.
We ate dinner a few times at the Mint restaurant and found the service there to be incredibly attentive. The breakfast at the hotel has plenty of options, both hot and cold, and again the service was quick and friendly. We had one dinner at the Bombay Brasserie and found the food to be very delicious! Service at this restaurant was above and beyond what we expected. The Twankey Bar offers free Wifi which is nice for keeping in touch with people back home.
The friendly greeting that you receive when you walk in the door is welcome after a busy day of seeing a beautiful city like Cape Town. We were only a short walk to Greenmarket Square to buy some souvenirs and we also visited the Slave Lodge which was an interesting museum across the street. We were a short 5-10 min drive to the Waterfront.
Overall, my experience staying at the Taj Cape Town was wonderful and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay in Cape Town.

Room Tip: Request a room with a view of Table Mountain!

How many times have you seen a "five star" rating with a beautiful lobby only to have a room that's a two star? I was pleasantly surprised with everything here. First, if you're not from South Africa don't expect the same level of customer experience as in an American five star property. It's great, but don't judge based only on that criteria (see other reviews) because there's not going to be a sense of urgency. I grabbed some dinner next door at the Twanky Bar. Had Lamb Quesadilla and it was excellent. What's interesting is they share the kitchen with Mint (Hotel Restaurant) and you can room charge. The room was five star plus. Large marble bathroom with rain shower and side shower. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever experienced. They also have a "pillow menu" you can choose from. Breakfast has a lot of choices and included in most rates. They also have valet parking included which is great when you have a rental and rare in South Africa.

Room Tip: Ask for the 17th floor for quiet and great views.

We sat down outside the Mint Restaurant for breakfast and saw no waiter for 15 minutes, went inside, were seated, ordered and waited 45 minutes for burnt bacon, toast and a rosti that looked like it was bought frozen from a supermarket. It was a thoroughly disgusting and embarrassing experience that we really did not expect!

Dear Fanus
Thank you for taking the time to share your disappointment, during your recent visit our Mint Restaurant. Firstly please accept our sincerest apologies for all the shortfalls – we have clearly failed to deliver on the Taj standard that we at pride ourselves on. I can assure you that your experience is certainly not at all typical to our establishment, and all details have been addressed with the Food and Beverage Manager.
Whilst we appreciate that an apology may not restore your total confidence in the offering, when planning your next trip to Cape Town, I invite you to contact either my personal assistant Trish Humby, or myself, to make the necessary arrangements on your behalf, and I will personally ensure that your stay is memorable for all the right reasons.
We certainly hope that you we will have the opportunity to welcome you back in the not too distant future.

We stayed for 1 night, can't fault the room or general hotel facilities everything is spotlessly clean and in good condition as
You would expect. What lets it down is the service, staff are friendly enough, they just haven't been trained properly. White wine stored in a bucket with out any ice in it, isn't right!!. Mineral water that is served warm !!, it may seem petty but you should expect better from this type of hotel

From the gentleman that parked our car to the young lady at reception, we were made to feel welcome.
Room was fantastic, food was great and what made the experience extra special was to be greeted by a GM that's on the floor and not too "busy" to deal with guests.
