“Cool and competent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

I and two work colleagues stayed a few nights recently. Great experience. Retro-cool rooms with a 70's flair. The staff was attentive and very accommodating. Proximity to the Waterfront is a plus. The small back garden and pool is a very relaxing way to unwind after a long day. The Eggs Benedict on the breakfast menu may be the best I've ever had. May or may not be a good choice for families with small children, but for couples or business travel you cannot lose.

I stayed for 3 nights in mid June. This small boutique hotel is located in a quiet residential area but only within a few minutes’ walk from the main road where you can find café, restaurants and supermarkets and 15 minutes walk from the V&A waterfront.

The room was spacious, modern and clean. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast was wonderful and I loved it very much. As I did not want to go outside after the dark, I ordered food from the room service menu for my supper and it was delicious and reasonably priced and the first drink was given for free of charge! The staffs were all friendly and always helpful. Gilbert who stays at the reception during the night prepared me a take-out breakfast for the morning of checking out and it was very good.

The bath room is like a part of the room and there is no privacy when using toilet or shower. The room easily gets a lot of moisture from the bath room and towels remain wet next morning. I could not find bathrobes although it is included in the list of amenities on the website.

Overall I enjoyed the stay.

My husband and I recently stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in June. The hotel is very nice in a great location near restaurants and grocerry stores and phone shop near by too if you need to get SIM cards, etc. The hotel is very nice, clean and has a mondern edge to it. The staff are very friendly expecially Gilbert who made us a breakfast to go on our last night as we had a very early morning flight. They arranged all our airport transports. The breakfast is also excellent and was included as they had a fruit, cereal and yogurt and juice options in addition to a nice hot and cooked meal (eggs, sausage, bacon, beans, etc) which we had on our 1st day. It was delicious. The 1st night we got the room downstairs by the garden and it was quite spacious and the 2nd night we had the room by the reception area which was smaller but still very roomy. The only thing is that the bathroom is in the open with no door but if you are a couple as we were, we had no problem with it. But the place was spotless and very nice. I would definitely stay here if I return to Capetown as it was also only a 20-25 minute car ride from CPT international aiport. So very convenient location. Furthermore, their wifi connection was excellent.

Room Tip: I prefer the room downstairs by the garden as it was very nice and roomy.

Lovely rooms, ours had a massive bed, bath & shower which was great. Communal areas just as good, a pleasure to be in. Very clean, modern & fresh. Lush breakfast with lots of choice. Great team, really everyone we met - kitchen ladies, night staff all very friendly, fantastic manager Michelle gave us some great places to visit when we unexpectedly had extra time on our hands and helped with a few hiccups we had ( nothing to do with the hotel - the tour operator back home) would def recommend to anyone & stay again.

Room Tip: Can only comment on ours which was brilliant, ground floor next to the garden exit

We stayed for three nights. Our room was of very good size, very good breakfast. The hotel is located about 10 min walk from the V&A Waterfront in a good neighbor. The best of all is the staff. They are very friendly and professional. Help us with all of our needs and problems.

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms at the upper level. They are bigger.

We stayed at the Zest for two nights and were highly satisfied.  The accommodations are decent.  Weheaded up with one of the "garden level" rooms which is accessed by going out to the pool area first.  The room and bathroom were tiny compared to some of the others we saw, but in good order and very clean.  The other drawback to these rooms is that the Internet is very weak (despite a dedicated router) and we had to go to the lobby/living room to get a decent speed.  The location is ok, about a ten minute walk from V&A or 15-20 minutes downtown.

But what really makes this place great is the service and staff.  We interacted with several people who were extremely friendly, welcoming and warm.  The breakfast service is great.  In particular, the gentleman who minds the hotel overnight was such a nice guy who went out of his way to help us and make us feel welcome.  If you stay here and have a chance, you should say hi to him.  He and the rest of the staff are a huge asset to the hotel, and turned a stay in an average and slightly cramped room into a five star experience for us.

Room Tip: Try not to get a "garden level", but even if you do, you'll be fine

We stayed two nights at Vila Zest and had a wonderful time. The hotel is well located and within few minutes by cab to any major attraction. The rooms are spacious, clean and quiet. The breakfast has a good selection of breads and hot meals. My only note to those who like some privacy: their quirky opened bathroom layout can be a bit weird if you want some privacy.
But the hotel is really well managed by Michelle and Janice. They are also great source of information about Cape Town. Also can not forget Gilbert who stays in the front desk at night. He has a lot of information to share as well and very very helpful. Thank you Villa Zest to make our quick stay in Cape Town so wonderful.
