“Great Belgium restaurant in Cape Town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

This Belgium restaurant at the Waterfront in Cape Town is great.
Other than having a wonderful collection of Belgium beers including draft beers, and for first timers having to put your left shoe into a basket that is hosted to the ceiling, just to ensure that drunken revellers do not run away without paying, their food is great as well.
Setting in the old, renovated, docks is great.

“Lose a shoe for a kwak!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

Our initial reason for visiting den anker was by word of mouth from friends of the great food and the fact that you had to sacrifice a shoe to get a Kwak beer ,which was hoisted up in a basket and returned when you were done with the beer and the glass was in good order, which sounded like a pretty adventurous night out
Laid out on a pier in the V&A Waterfront one could not ask for a better setting
The Fillet steak was mouthwatering but unfortunately the prawns my wife had ordered were substandard and possibly off, which she sent back
Den Anker is little on the pricey side and possible aimed more at those spending dollars or pounds
Overall a great establishment, decor and setting , although consistency with the food is required for a better rating

“Den Anker”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

so lets be very clear, Den Anker is first and foremost a fantastic pub, serving wonderful beer and all set in a most beautiful location. I love the beer here. Its not cheap, but then again in this location and for the quality of the beer you really cant go wrong. I normally eat only the Mussels and Chips here, recently I had lunch with friends and we sampled a much more expansive meal off the menu. the starters were all fantastic, however the main courses were all a big dissapointment, they were all cold, freezing cold. We told the manager and he became very surly and seemed genuinely upset, not with the fact that the food was cold, but because we had the temerity to complain. He said he would see the chef, and he did and came back and said that the chef was not happy, I told him I am very sorry for that but he had 2 choices, either change and cook the main courses again or we would leave a not pay for anything we had. He chose the former, and after a short while all main dishes were returned, piping hot and they were all very good. So we cant fault the outcome, just the fact that it was poor first time round.
