“A different eating experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2014

As the title suggests it was very different from the knife and fork approach . A great option for vegetarians . We found the staff very friendly and helpful in helping us choose our dishes . A lovely way to spend an evening in Cape Town.

“Accommodated an Onion food allergy. Well done !!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2014

Took 4 visitors including 2 children (5 & 7) for the adventure of eating interesting food with your fingers. One person cannot eat onions and the kitchen made up 4 of the 8 dishes with her in mind. Really well done!
Kids were accommodated as well and 2 dishes were primarily meat with a bit less spice.
Go EARLY if you need special attention. The children are very well behaved so they were not disruptive to other diners but we took up two spaces on the first eating level next to the open windows and pretty much had it to ourselves. The second level filled up and is of course much noisier and warmer (no air conditioning). Wait staff was friendly and totally accommodating. Of course dinner takes some time to prepare but even with our special needs it was not excessive. Would certainly return again.
Always a fun experience. I am not going to get into whether it is totally authentic or not because we really don't care. The "whole show" is why we go and we get what we pay for and then some.

“Ethiopian experience in Cape Town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2014

The food at Addis was a very nice surprise. This was our first taste of Ethiopian food and we loved the. The ambiance of the place is lovely and it felt authentic. We had great service from our waiter and he could explain each dish as well as origin. Since we are vegetarian it was a great experience because this restaurant has a variety of veggie option. And they are all YUMM!!!.
We would go back to this restaurant and take our friends along.

“Beware of 10% service fee!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2014

A classical tourist trap: 10% service fee at the end of the night. Do not support these practices and boycott this place so they will learn!

“Authentic - no frills”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

We have not visited Ethiopia but the tables, chairs, decor and ambience certainly appeared authentic.
A wide selection of tasty foods is placed on a huge, circular injera bread, and no utensils are used - injera is also used to scoop up the delicious foods and sauces - a hands-on experience!
Service was efficient and very friendly. Good value for money.
