The hotel is impressive upon entry and the location ideal for its proximity to the waterfront which is within walking distance. There are several restaurants nearby as well as a Woolworths Food practically next door. Overall the service is good and everyone is helpful. This would be our 4th year visiting the Royale. They now have an open pool policy which allows paying customers to use the pool. In the afternoon it is impossible to find a place to sit near the pool as the lounge chairs are occupied by tanned youthful paying patrons listening to load music. In the past this was an exclusive pool, but this time round, my husband and I skipped the pool, despite the lovely vistas. The hotel has a tendency to be cavernous, so request a bedroom which does not have "window" facing the inside. Any interior noise can be heard at all hours and can be disruptive to one's sleep. If your breakfast is not included, skip it as it is not worth the R200 you'll be paying for a mediocre buffet. Establishments nearby have delicious breakfasts for a 1/4 of the price.
